Star Castle Hotel

Excellent views to other islands from our private decked area; large room; amazing 4 course evening meal (cost just an extra £30 per person on our bed and breakfast rate); very welcoming, professional, friendly and keen to help.

Swimming pool was nice and warm but a bit shabby (e.g. the clock wasn't working). The long walks up to the hotel could be a problem for some people, but of course rewarded by the views and I noticed there were people using golf-style buggies to get around. Our daughter in a single room in the main building was slightly disturbed by late diners talking one evening, at a table outside her door. Switches for the bedside lights could have been positioned better. But overall we really enjoyed our stay.

We were a family of five staying at this lovely and beautifully set hotel, and from the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The setting was charming, but what truly made our stay unforgettable was the staff — every single person we encountered was exceptionally kind, welcoming, and genuinely accommodating. Their warmth and attentiveness made us feel completely at home. I also have to highlight the breakfast — hands down the best I’ve ever had at any hotel. From the quality of the food to the thoughtful presentation, it was a true standout and a perfect start to each day. We left with wonderful memories and will absolutely return. Highly recommended!

This hotel is an absolute gem. Without a doubt the people who work there are what make it so special but on top of that, the food in the hotel is first class, our freshly cooked breakfast was lovely. But the evening meal was amazing. We had the dinner option with our booking and we felt that the food we had was Michelin star quality. Absolutely delicious every night. A mention for Rebecca who manages the dining room, she is lovely and again can't do enough for you. In terms of food, we opted for fish dishes each time and we weren't disappointed. Our room No. 2 was on the top floor with fabulous views of the other islands and it was impeccably clean and well equipped. We just loved it all. I must also mention the reception team. Sarah, Beth and a lovely young lad whose name I didn't get just couldn't do enough for us. As guests you want to know that everything is taken care of for you... and it is. Down to the last detail. From transfers, to boat trips, to luggage, and even getting there can be organised by this small but amazing little team. The icing on the cake is the resident dog Rupert... I wanted to bring him home. Thank you Star Castle Team for making our long awaited stay so special.

We didn't feel there was anything that we could complain about or that we weren't happy with. If you are visiting be aware that room 2 has sloping ceilings , we are used to those at home so felt very comfortable. If you are over 6ft you might find them a consideration and its a good walk up a steep hill, but the views and castle make it so worth it and we wouldnt hesitate to go bck.

Meals were wonderful!

Everyone was very helpful. Raffe the boatman the lady in the office in fact all the staff could not do enough for you. . Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of going to St. Mary's to stay here.

Room 3 is a box under the eaves which renders a third of the room unusable which is wrong for a premium room. Bathroom minute. Plumbing noisy. Wife had to get on hands and knees on floor to make a cup,of tea.
