Resort Maison de Nongkhiaw

The staff was amazing especially May. She was so sweet with our 3 year old. The kindest soul. The breakfast was wonderful. Every day it had something different along with the usual pancakes, bread, and eggs). The fruits were incredibly fresh and delicious - especially the mangos and you can eat as many as you want. The view heading down to the reception area was absolutely breathtaking! We stayed in room 4 and the view was just gorgeous. The shuttle service to town was also so convenient because it’s a bit challenging going up and down the hill with the scooter so we’re grateful they were able to do drop offs and pick ups. We were worried because shower is a wet shower with no door or blinds but it didn’t matter because the floor is slanted and no water ever got out of the shower area. We got our laundry done and from one review it said their clothes smelt like bbq so we were worried but were out of clothes so had no choice. When we got ours back, they smelt wonderful! Only one issue was that we had one sock missing leaving us with only one but at least the clothes smelt fresh. The staff also helped us organize a boat tour up to Muang Noy and other villages. It cost $45 USD. The villages weren’t really worth it if you can’t hike the trails (it was difficult with a 3 year old) but the boat tour definitely was.

The sheets had some stains but they smelt clean. They also offer to do housekeeping every day if you want. We had an awful first night because so many bugs got into the room and I was horrified to the point I couldn’t sleep. But we learnt from the first night and starting the second night, we made sure literally every single light in our room was turned off starting at 5:30pm and when you exit/enter the room, make sure you are FAST. We didn’t have anymore issues after that and slept well. There were a few power outages so no AC and even water one night but that affected the entire area so not the resort’s issue. The AC could be a bit more powerful. We had the AC and fan on blasting at night and still felt hot. But honestly for the value, overall the stay was wonderful.

I think the resort itself is well built and also aim to provide a quiet, calm place for tourists to relax

However, I think the management and organisation can be improved. I have been to the similar resorts like this in other remote area in south east Asia, it’s all about showing the hospitality and friendliness of the place.

Sensational location north-west facing so getting most of the sunset and the sun most of the day by the pool. Room was spotlessly clean with a balcony view of the river. Breakfast was okay without being exceptional. You can get a free drop-off and pick-up service into town (20minutes walk). We wanted to climb the Phadeng peak the next morning at 0600. No problems; a driver was there to take us to the start and for free. We found the staff and management excellent and super-friendly. When we arrived early afternoon we enquired about a river trip and 30 minutes later the boat was there to take us. We felt staying here was a taste of luxury.

Location was about 1.5 kilometers from main road, but they have a truck for the shuttle service. It was easy to text them to come pick me up when I was ready to go back. I like being removed from the main tourist area, and the setting is spectacular. Very peaceful at night for great sleep. Walking is not far but the road is thick with dust. Breakfast overlooking the Nam Ou River was very nice. The buffet breakfast was good and adequate with a selection of fuits, museli, yogurt, eggs, bread etc.The smiling and helpful staff were so sweet, eager to please. Comfy bed, large bathroom with great shower, and huge cavernous room. Looking foward to go back for more hiking. There are some pretty challenging climbs around the area.

It's a little strange in this huge room there was only one rattan stool and a small round table. I asked the manager what if there are 2 people are in the room and he said they could sit outside on the balcony, which had 2 larger chairs and a larger table. No hangers for clothes, only a standing hat rack to hang clothes, although there are 2 robes on hangers. So I just kept things folded in the cabinet where the robes were. Could uses a brighter light in the bathroom.

Lovely hotel a little way out of Nong Khiaw which suited us as we wanted peace and quiet and had our own car. View to the river were fantastic. Rooms were comfortable and clean.
