Son River Homestay

Great peaceful location about 3km out of the main town - you can borrow bikes or have a nice walk to get to the departure point for boats to Phong Nha cave. Many restaurants in a close proximity. The room was clean and comfy. We could also rent a scooter to drive to Paradise Cave - you can make a loop to get back to Phong Nha, it's a beautiful drive.

When it comes to Grab taxi's you need to be lucky. I was able to get a grab taxi but some days no Grab taxi in the area. There are taxi's downtown. That's like a 30 minutes walk.

I would have given it 10 but they charge for extra water. Other than that, helpful staff and great nights sleep in a clean and comfortable room. Perfect place to stay if you're wanting to do a tour trekking the jungle and caves. Beautiful area and great view by the river. They did my laundry very quickly and I was very grateful after the muddy, wet, trip I did while staying in Phong Nha.

Staff was friendly and okay communication.

Honestly, I don’t really know why this place gets such a high rating. Windows are dirty and full of dead insects, walls are also covered in cobwebs. The wool blanket on the bed was filthy and smelled really bad. We didn’t use it and used our towels als blankets.

Host didn't let us in in Son River because he was apparently overbooked but like at last minute (and just because we texted him about our arrival time). He did offered us to go to another homestay of his property but was far from the center where we wanted to stay. He seems like he was kind and available but at the same time he seems like he wasn't really happy about our arrival time and he was pushing for us to go to the other place.. Also when we were asking infos about buses to Ninh Binh he was giving extra charged prices (800k/850k when you can find something else cheaper outside). Honestly there are tons of hotels and homestays so you can find something else for the same price or 1/2€ euros more very easily.

Beautiful little homestay just outside of town, about 25min walk but still with plenty around & stunning views of the river/mountains. Good price with breakfast, host family were very friendly & has bicycles to use for free.

Good solution for short stay, room was good and enough space for two people. Free bicycle.

30 minutes walking from main area

Our host was so friendly and helpful, and the room was perfect, plus the home cooking was amazing, every meal spent looking at the beautiful view. Being a little bit away from the busy part of town made it so relaxing but not isolated.

Really nice place in Trang An, closeby the river and also quite close to all places to visit. The people were super nice and friendly and the room was beautiful and clean. You can rent a scooter there or use the free bicycles to get around. We had a great time here ❤️

The staff were lovely and really helpful. Helped us book buses and tours. We arrived at 4am and check in was fairly smooth. Room size was good and there was a communal balcony with a good sunset point. Room was clean and a good shower. Enough restaurants close enough to not always have to do the walk into town.

Having to switch on the hot water which sometimes ran out during a longer shower. Beds are a little uncomfortable. But given we paid about £6 per night not much to complain about.
