Hostal Casa Moreno

This stay was great for the price that we paid for two air conditioned rooms. The rooms were very accommodating for our travel group of 5 ppl in one family room and 1 person in the other private room.Great restaurants in walking distance. Staff at the hostel is very friendly and helpful. Eventhough, we paid for air conditioning in the rooms- there was also two great fans to circulate the cold air 😇 there is also parking at the hostel for personal vehicle or motorcycles Upon seeing other hostels in the area this one looked far superior and unique .

Nice stay in moyogalpa, 3 blocks to the ferry, close to some nice restaurants. The young woman with the baby was a very nice receptionist and the room was clean. Nice pool also. Good a/c in the room.

Wifi only worked in the lobby, no doorknob (kind of weird), the hotel charged an extra booking fee that wasn't on the Booking website. I paid $30/night instead of$23/night. 3 nights were 90 not 72 that was shown on booking.com

We liked and used the pool. The girls at the front desk (Igalia) were very helpful. The hotel offers luggage storage at no additional fee

Unfortunately we shared the room with several cockroaches, including 1 found on the bed. The ensuite shower in the room had extremely low water pressure. The hotel does not provide filtered drinking water to guests and only offers tap water, which caused GI distress for all members of our party (I mention this as all other, lower budget hostels on our trip did provide filtered drinking water). Finally, we decided to book scooter rentals through Casa Moreno. The booking fee was on par with the going rate in Moyogalpa ($15/per scooter/day). Upon return of the scooters, we became victim to predatory additional charges for what I would consider general "wear and tear" for a scooter on an island with gravel roads. It became clear this is a common scam employed by the staff to increase profits. They took a very long time to "find" damage on the scooter and then were very quick to pull out an itemized list for damages. They wanted to charge an additional $60USD for damages (on top of the rental fee). We ended up paying an additional $40USD after arguing with them for 20 minutes. Quite a final negative experience on top of a mediocre stay.
