"Highly recommended"

10.0

Staying at this hostel was truly a wonderful experience, thanks in large part to the incredible host, Carolina. From the moment I arrived, she made me feel completely at home. Her kindness, attentiveness, and warm hospitality stood out right away. The hostel itself is spotless—cleanliness is clearly a top priority. The rooms are spacious, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed. Every detail, from the decor to the amenities, reflects Carolina’s care and attention. I had some unexpected issues with my original tour guide, and Carolina went above and beyond by organizing a new tour for me herself. That kind of personal touch and support made all the difference The location is ideal, making it easy to explore the area, and the overall service is simply the best I’ve experienced in a hostel. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Thank you, Carolina, for everything!

"Bad shower with no water and poor communication"

3.0

Early check in on the 1st night after a long bus ride. Room was clean and spacious. Towels and breakfast provided.

We stayed here a total of 4 nights and had multiple problems with the shower and the heater. On our 3rd night, we returned at 6pm as we had a 4am tour the next day and told the reception assistant that we did not require breakfast as we had to leave at 4 in the morning. We found that the whole building had no water and we could not shower. The assistant told us to wait 5 hours till 11pm for water. At 11pm, no water and no one was around. I walked around the hostel and knocked some doors - no answer. WhatsApp Catalina, no response. I spent 5 hours waiting followed by 1 hour boiling bottled water in the kitchen so my wife could shower (see photo). Ended up with 3 hours sleep and a very miserable day on tour. On the 4th night of this stay, I managed to take a 15 min shower and use the toilet. After my shower, my wife showered and the water cut-off halfway. The assistant spent 20 mins trying to fix it while my wife was wet and cold in the shower. No updates were given throughout this 20 mins and I had to go 3 times to the reception desk to ask for it. When it was 'fixed', the water that came out was a trickle. We said we were leaving and started packing up. 10 mins later, Catalina appeared while on the phone with someone and she managed to fix the shower. But at this point, we had made up our minds and it felt like this was only taken seriously when we were leaving. To their credit: they gave us a full refund for 2 nights of 206 soles and washed our laundry for free. They also gave us snacks in lieu of our breakfast for our tour and some bottled water when the water was out. Yet, I feel that beyond the water issues, there were some serious communication problems and my valuable time was wasted on this vacation solving their problems on my own.

"A Dose of Reality"

6.0

The room was clean. The WiFi worked well. The breakfast ranged from typical-Peruvian-hotel-breakfast to good. On my last (third) morning, I got eggs, cheese, avocado, banana, grapes, four (!) bread rolls, butter/jelly, and "orange juice" (actually orange drink from a 3 liter bottle that tastes like Tang). I think they wanted me to leave with a good impression. The hot water in the shower was provided by one of those head-mounted electric heaters that are so common in Central America, but you don't see so often in South America. I count this as a plus in as much you are always guaranteed hottish water. Generally you want to keep the flow of water through these things low so the heater can do its job, but that is taken out of your hands at this hostal.

This place costs way too much for what they offer. My rate with Booking.com was supposed to be $24.50/night, but I ended up paying $28/night. I pointed out the discrepancy to the lady who took the money and told her that as a foreigner the IVA didn't apply to me. She told me that it was the "Booking.com commission" which of course is BS, but I decided to let it go. I really regret that. The room just had a bed, a night table with very small dirty drawers, and a small desk and chair. There was no wardrobe in spite of the booking details. The bathroom was really small with no towel bar. Noise traveled easily between rooms. Also, they burned incense (I think that's a New Year's thing in Cusco) early in the morning. In spite of the fact that the incense burner was at some remove from the rooms, it was very noticeable. Later that morning, I got a message (in English whereas all previous communication had been in Spanish) from them stating that the rooms are nonsmoking which really rubbed me the wrong way (I'm not a smoker). It's not a bad place for a night or two, but I have difficulty understanding why it gets such great reviews. By way of comparison, I've been to three other hotels in Cusco all of which were superior. The most expensive of the three charged me $25/night (I wasn't at one of these because they were fully booked for New Year's).
