"Great location with lost class."

5.0

Location. 100 meters to a lift. The Onsen was excellent. Clean and well maintained with a great mtn view. Breakfast was amazing with a wide range of Japanese and western foods. The ski shop one-man shop was the real deal.

Generally run down. Many amenities closed or not available. Bar…closed. Snack restaurant… closed. Many vending machines not working. Nothing available nearby. Delivery with a 2 hour wait was all that was available. Classy place that needs some love.

"Great location, convenient shuttle service to get to the resorts in five minutes, and wonderful staff!"

9.0

We had a wonderful experience at Sachinoyu, which we learned means “Happy Onsen.” We came in late January to ski in Shiga Kogen and would definitely like to come back again. We had friends stay at two different nearby hotels at the same time, but we would recommend Sachinoyu for the following reasons: - The Staff: they were all super friendly and helpful. In particular, there was a lovely lady named Evon who was fluent in English, Chinese in addition to Japanese and other languages. She was able to explain over chat how best to get there from the airport, and how to get around Shiga Kogen. Evon, thanks for all your help! We also liked the warm, family-run feeling of the place. - Shuttle Service: our friends at the nearby hotels had to take the public bus to get to the ski resorts and then back to their hotels. But Sachinoyu offered a much more convenient and flexible van service to take you to the nearby resorts and pick up in the evenings. (there are no local taxi’s in Shiga Kogen, would have to call one further away from Yudanaka) - Location: was centrally located between the Yamanoeki station (where you can enter the central Shiga Kogen ski fields) as well as the Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama resorts. With their shuttle service, we could get to any of these in 5 minutes.

The only caveat is the hotel interior is a bit dated, but all of the other lodging options in Shiga Kogen are the same. The breakfast food was a bit light on protein on the weekday, but significantly improved on the weekend when more people came. The dining hall here was much cozier than the other hotels.

"Perfect for an easy ski trip, even for foreigners."

10.0

Located walking distance to sunvalley ski lifts, can ski the who mountain area on one pass from this lift without needing a bus. Great Onsen, delicious Japanese dinner. Able to rent ski gear and clothes directly from the hotel. Also right next to the express bus stop that can take you all the way back to nagano station.

"Great family holiday!"

9.0

Traditional Japanese hospitality, welcoming and great staff who always tried their best to make us feel welcome despite any language barriers. Great dinners!

Old fashioned hotel but similar to any other traditional resort in the area.

"Overall, give this place a miss. However, I’ve heard most of the Shiga Kogen hotels are as rundown. Needs some investmen"

4.0

Good points: Friendly, helpful staff Could rent beginner ski gear easily Hearty and delicious Japanese style breakfast and dinner. Onsen is clean and inviting. Quiet and relaxing - no bars or restaurants to check out (this could also be a bad point)

Bad points: The whole place is crumbly and dusty and very old. Wallpaper is peeling, hot water jugs are cracked and broken. Futons are old and worn - they’re so thin! I’ve slept on very comfortable futon in the past. There is no way of adjusting heating in rooms and it blasts at 40 degrees Celsius constantly. Had to keep opening the window which can’t be efficient. The heating is also old it clangs and bangs and carries on as it’s starting up every few hours - even in the early morning. The whole place is a fire hazard - there is a smell of burning electrical wires in one of the lifts. And there is crap everywhere that will just go up in flames very easily. The staff tried to charge us for our accommodation a second time on checkout.
