Whimsical Wonderland Cottage Retreat near Peak District

Beautiful little stone cottage in an idyllic village setting with wonderful scenery. The property is quirky but that adds to the character & charm. Great pubs nearby , we loved the miners standard. Food is great. Friendly locals too.

The lanes are extremely narrow & we have a big car so parking it on the driveway took a bit of manoeuvring & a fair amount of sweating!!!

Winster is a charming village quite close to Matlock. The cottage is up a hill from the main road on a narrow road. There is a pub close by and the cottage is less than a ten-minute walk to the centre of the village where there is a shop and at least one oother pub. You can easily get to some nice walks. There is parking for one vehicle next to the cottage, but if you have a large vehicle or are not keen on reversing into the drive way on a narrow sloping road you might prefer to park in the free carpark a couple of minutes walk up the road. Picking up the key form the keybox was easy and the property was ready from the time we were told it was. The cottage is whimsical as advertised - the Alice in Wonderland decorations in every room are great. We were left some biscuits, tea and a bottle of drink. Also there were pods for the coffee maker (coffee and Nesquik) which was a nice touch. The living room is cosy, the kitchen had everything we needed in it, and the bedrooms were all comfortable. The shower worked well and got hot quickly. There were logs etc left out for a fire which we lit on one evening. Communications from the owners were great and they sent a message to check that we didn;t have any issues. We had a very pleasant stay and would happily stay there again.

Nothing major at all. There is a dehumidifier in the kitchen which we pretty much left alone. We worked out how to operate he heating and I think that we worked out which was the recycling bin outside, but some instructions on these things might have been useful.

Wow - one of the nicest places we've ever stayed. The cottage was simply perfect - clean, comfortable, spacious, well equipped and very warm - important on the coldest weekend of the winter. Loved the Alice in Wonderland theme. 10/10 no hesitation. Will definitely come back. Winster is a gorgeous little village, with 2 good pubs and a well stocked store.

Perfect Cosy little cottage. Just what we were after for a quiet New Year. Conveniently located close to Matlock and Bakewell.

If i had to be really picky, the narrow roads leading to the property and tight driveway. However, this is part of the charm of our lovely little UK villages! There is more spacious parking not far away for those less confident in driving like me!

Brilliant location, two good local pubs, lots of local walks. Property was very clean, beautifully decorated. Had everything we needed. The hosts were great, easy to contact and quick to respond. I will definitely book again.

A wonderful little cottage with lots of quirky details .We loved the Alice in Wonderland theme .The cottage was very comfortable and cosy.It was very clean ,well equipped and a fab shower. Toiletries and fluffy towels were provided along with tea bags and coffee.which were very much appreciated. Our hosts made a point of contacting us to check that we had checked in ok and that all was well . The location was perfect for us .Great views from the cottage and an easy walk up the hill to the local pub. We would happily stay there again.Thank you.

We had a great few weeks here for our family. The location is great and in a peaceful area. Communication with Brendan & Sarah was seamless; they were friendly and responsive. We left with wonderful family memories of a great trip.
