Jansen’s Bungalow Sinharaja Rainforest Retreat

Gorgeous bungalow and rooms, very helpful staff. The bungalow is very close to the Forest Gate and they drive you down in their tuktuk.

Food was very good but took over an hour to arrive each time. The bug nets above the beds (very much needed!) also had quite a few holes.

A historic tea estate bungalow at the edge of the jungle looking over a river valley. The staff are attentive and accommodating. Relax at the pool, on the verandah or the cozy couches. A separate dining pavilion is well designed and the food is tasty and attractively presented. Wildlife is close by with hornbills, magpies and sunbirds all visiting.

The road was being improved during our stay. Parking is down the hill and staff will gladly shuttle you in their own tuk-tuk. As it is on a hillside stairs are unavoidable.

Flakey internet ( but we shouldn’t want or need this in this fantastic location) thus coincided with the day that the whole of Sri Lanka lost power due to a monkey!

The location is excellent. Staff very helpful. The isolation and quiet is lovely. Well decorated. Good bird life around hotel

The briefing notes were absent in the room or at reception. It was difficult to find out serving times of meals, pool opening times, where the natural pool was, how to get to the national reserve etc. Asking a few people eventually got us the info we needed but it shouldn't really be that difficult. I had just flown 11 hours and 3 hours car ride from the airport so we were pretty irritable so apologies to the staff for my short temper. Last bug.. WiFi is pretty well non existent and only phone network to work is mobitel.

A quiet, safe, comfortable place. It's a great place to put your thoughts in order.

Good place in rainforest. Staff very friendly. Pool like infinity has fresh water and a good nature view. We had rooms with terraces.

Good, if you know before, there are some steps in garden and pool near. For peoples those who can not walk well.

The grounds are breathtakingly beautiful. Enjoyed sitting out by the pool and house terrace every evening. The staff go above and beyond for you, organising transport to and from the entrance of sinharaja rainforest and a local waterfall where they walk down with you for 30 mins or so to make sure you're safe. The food was the best food I ate in sri lanka. The wildlife just continues to show itself there. There is limited WiFi, only whilst sitting on the terrace of the main house but it was nice to have a phone free stay. (Expect a few short lived power cuts). 10/10 recommend this place for a nature filled stay or a rainforest relax and retreat. When you are driving to this property, it seems a little off the beaten track.. but it is well signposted. If using Google maps, be aware it may take you further down the road than the access drive so keep your eyes peeled for the road signs!
