Edinburghs Arthurs seat View

Myself and my partner booked to stay at this location over Valentine's Weekend. What at first looked like a good bargain soon turned out to be an absolute nightmare. When we arrived we both felt a sense of dread as we entered the front hallway of the apartment block, faced with a pile of rubbish and debris at the bottom of the stairs. There are two steep flights which isn't mentioned anywhere on the listing. The front door to the apartment block is stiff and we couldn't get it to stay shut/locked (in what seems like a rough area). Entering the apartment we were optimistic but our first impressions were quickly justified when we explored the location further. We discovered a whole range of concerning issues, some of which are listed below: - Chips/marks/defects on more or less every wall in the apartment - Large cracks in the walls and ceiling (some were making noises when people were moving around upstairs) - Grime on the windows - Broken mattress - Stained bedding - Thin quilt (in February with no heating in the bedroom) - Food debris on the kitchen counters/hob - Food debris/mould in freezer - Shoe prints on kitchen floor - Grime in the kitchen sink - Mouldy smell in bathroom - Build up of mould around the shower - Incorrectly fitted toilet seat (another reviewer mentioned this to the host who proceeded to charge them for "damages") - Chipped mirror in bathroom - Rusty stains on the bathroom floor tiles - A window in toilet the can be seen from the bedroom We also noticed that noises from the neighbouring apartments can be heard quite loudly, with one neighbour in particular dealing with a crying child. The overall atmosphere is dingy and oppressive and neither of us felt comfortable staying here, and were forced to book elsewhere last minute (we left within an hour of arriving). When approached with these issues the host simply stopped responding to messages.

The bathroom does not have heat (the water was hot, but not the bathroom, unlike the other rooms). The apartment has many cracks, and the building overall feels a little strange

Compact, well-equipped, very comfortable apartment with a splendid view of Arthur’s Seat (as advertised), a short walk from the centre of the city. The host has clearly tried to think ahead and provide everything that’s needed. The Christmas decorations were a nice touch. It is very convenient to where our son lives, so we hope to stay again.

There is a street light outside the bedroom window and we didn’t discover the shutters to block it out until the second night. The opaque glass bricks in the wall between the bedroom and bathroom are an interesting design feature, but somewhat disconcerting. The toilet seat was loose and the wrong shape for the bowl. But these are minor points; overall, it was excellent.

Location was good, communication from the hosts was clear and helpful

It was very cold when I arrived (11 degrees Celsius according to the thermostat in the living room), as the heating was completely turned off and the underfloor heating took several hours to be effective. The hosts explained how to turn the heating on when I messaged them about this but I think it would have been nicer to leave some low level of heating on or arrange for this to be turned on a few hours before guests arrival time given how long it took for the place to heat up once switched on.

Great cosy place, good if you want to sleep separately :) and shower was very nice and the view

The facilities are poor, weak toilet sitting that does not match. The toilet is square yet the sitting and cover is oval so it was difficult for us to do privy. And it was jiggle the first time we arrived, however after we checked out the host insisted for is to pay for the loosened toilet sitting and cover which was not fair at all on us

Super comfy bed, slept like a baby. Plenty of space - table and desk to work and all the basics in the kitchen. I like a good view too and this one did not disappoint! Restaurants of every variety within ten mins walk as well as about 5 local supermarkets, and the sights and sounds of Edinburgh v easily accessible too. The owner is very helpful with rapid answers to any questions.

As others have said, this is an apartment with a shared entrance and you need to be prepared to carry your luggage up to the second floor. Not a problem if it doesn't take you by surprise.
