Amba Kola Udawalawa

Would really recommend this place. The room was beautiful and clean. Janik helped us organize a safari too which was incredible. The whole family made us feel so welcome and catered to our food preferences especially with spicy levels! We were really sad to leave and wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you to Janik and his family i hope we can come back soon.

An amazing little hotel, the fact that it only has 5 rooms means the family who run it are able to offer a wonderful personal service. The hotel has a lovely clean pool which is fabulous. Traditional Sri Lankan food is on offer cooked by the mum of the guy who runs it assisted and waitered on by his dad. We were lucky enough to be the first people to stay in their new family room (even though there were only 2 of us). On leaving everyone receives a bunch of flowers, such a lovely touch. Location - just around the corner from the elephant sanctuary and the owners also run their own jeep safaris.

Het was een prachtig verblijf, gelegen in een rustig stukje waar je van alle rust kon genieten. De host Janik is een man met een hart van goud. We hebben hier 4 nachten verbleven en het voelde echt als thuis komen. Hij behandelde ons als familie en hielp ons bij het verder plannen van onze trip. Zijn mama is een bijzondere kokkin en stralen zoveel liefde uit. Rislan de ober is een bijzondere man, die ons verblijf nog aangenamer maakte. De kamers zijn ook allemaal heel netjes en luxueus. Het zwembad is zalig. Zeker een aanrader om hier een paar dagjes te ontkoppelen. Hij regelde ook een safari voor ons. De gids had een zeer goed oog voor de dieren die we konden spotten naast de olifanten. Het was zeker de moeite. Dankuwel voor alles!

The whole famile is so cute and helpful and funny and polite and this made our stay one of the most wholesome experience in Sri Lanka. Next time we have to make sure to stay longer, the spirit of the place is amazing, homemade cosmetic products was a bliss and homecooked meals was truly delicious. You have to experience this place yourself to know what I mean 🤍

We had a wonderful stay at Amba Kola Guest House, a truly lovely family-run place that makes you feel at home from the very beginning. Janik, the owner, is incredibly helpful and takes care of everything you might need, from arranging safaris and transport to other requests, all at very reasonable prices. What we really appreciated is that the family employs people from the local village, so by staying here you are directly supporting the local community. One of the highlights of our stay was the cooking class with Janik’s mother, who is also the cook at the guesthouse. It was an amazing experience, and without a doubt the best rice and curry we had during our entire trip in Sri Lanka. The guesthouse itself is very clean, well maintained, and looked after with great attention to detail. Most of all, we felt genuinely welcomed and included by the family, which made our stay extra special. We can highly recommend Amba Kola Guest House to anyone looking for an authentic and warm place to stay.
