"Comfy one night stay"

Elephant & Castle is a small traditional style pub with accommodation above. We were met by Summer who was lovely & checked us in & advised us where to park (the pub doesn't have it's own car park, but there's one to the rear of the property with very reasonable rates & the rear access gate makes this very convenient). The bed was really comfy & the room was a good size, very clean & equipped with a fan which in the current spell of hot weather was a godsend! There was a little 'local knowledge' file in the room which was handy & unusual these days.

No food options, but it wasn't an issue as there are lots of places to eat & drink nearby. Lots of key codes for various doors/gates but we had a giggle & said it was like being on the Crystal Maze! Needed my reading glasses to get in & out of the room/pub. Pub is only 'manned' during opening hours so if you arrive/leave outside these hours there's no-one around to speak to. Not a problem if you're happy checking yourself in & out.

The room was newly refurbished as was the 1st floor. Clearly a work in progress. The staff were helpful when asked for missing items. The ensuite was new. There was an efficient fan in the room and the additional double glazing dulled the traffic noise enough to not disturb.

Location on a main road can't be helped. Local drunks everywhere in Wakefield even at 3pm!! Ensuite toilet hadn't been cleaned properly and there was disgusting remnant on toilet brush (see pic) so I left it and told the staff - who were apologetic. High price of £89 with no breakfast option compared to other accommodation in Wakefield. Not good value for money - def wouldn't recommend unless you are desperate- which I was at time of booking.
