Clarence Quarters Vintage Seafront Guest House

I liked how close we were to the seafront and to a couple of places we wanted to visit without having to use the car.

There was a bit of a windy day and night and the curtains in the room were blowing from the draft coming through. This wasn't ideal with the bed directly opposite it caused for a chilly night. Also the people in the rooms above we exceptionally noisy, as in the light fitting shook as they banged around upstairs. Not good if you want a quiet chilled evening if there was entertainment from the pub below. With both the guests upstairs and thumping music the one night was very stressful and noisy. Room was clean and tidy bathroom was the same even though it was on the small side.

A lot of stairs, we had a couple of larger suitcases and was about 3 flights of steep stairs to get up. Limited options on the TV in the room

Everything. I was booked in for 3 days for work down here. Initially, the hotel appeared nice and quiet and a cosy place. However, once the sun went down it was a nightmare. I could hear everything. Above me was walking around and the hotel was creaking, next door was talking and slamming doors, even when they went quiet, I could stil hear there TV. There was no fan and the room was like a sauna. I left on the first night at 0130am and drove home to drive back the next day. I contacted the hotel to say it wasn't good and I wanted to leave early, I said that i'd be happy with a 1 night refund, given I did go in on the first night and the second night I would have not gave them enough time to sort the room for someone else. They initially was really professional in their response, however soon as I said I wanted a refund for 1 night only, despite booking it for 3 nights and only staying 1 due to how bad it was, they ignored me. I usually never write bad reviews, especially for local and small businesses, however the moment they ignored my request for a refund was unacceptable.

The location was great. The room was well equipped with essentials and was very clean. The hosts were very accommodating and helpful.

The toilet door squeaked so loudly it disturbs sleep at night. This is just a quick fix with a WD40 on the hinges. Nothing major.

Great location and communication during stay. Nice clean vintage style room, looovely smell. The bed was great too, we slept like babies. We kept the curtains closed during the day so it didn't get too hot in the room. An extra hook on the door or/and shelf in the wardrobe would be great. (This didn't' affect the stay. It's just a suggestion). Clean shared bathroom and kitchen. We would definitely stay again next time we visit the town.
