Point Break Varkala

The place is a hidden gem right in the centre close to touristy area. The hotel is decorated beautifully and the courtyard was a nice surprise. Our room had a balcony which was an added bonus. Great value for money!

Gorgeous and serene hotel in Varkala! My husband and I stayed in one of the front sea view rooms at the beginning of December and it has an incredible view of the ocean and waves, especially sitting on the front porch (there is a big aquarium building obstructing part of the view but the building is nicely designed so it’s not an eyesore and there’s still plenty of sea views). The location is great! It’s about a 2 minute walk to Black Beach which is awesome if you surf like my husband, it was pretty easy for us to get to the beach fast. Point Break is maybe 7-8 minutes to the north end of the cliff walk and 5 minutes to the beginning of the north side of town. The room was a good size for two people with a comfortable bed and spacious bathroom; it’s one of those open bathrooms with no separate shower stall but it’s very easy to get used to for anyone who typically doesn’t use that type of format. A young man Manoj (I hope I spelled his name correctly) was the host for our 3 night stay and he was very sweet and helpful. He was quick to help us with a couple things and served us a great traditional breakfast. The property has a swing that’s pretty fun with a great view and a common area overlooking palm trees and a field below frequented by cows and egrets, plus a bunch of other cool birds. We were the only two guests for our first two days/nights so it was pretty quiet which was really nice, but if there were other guests that also would’ve been nice to have others around to meet/chat with. More people checked in on our last night though! I highly recommend staying here for a trip to Varkala!

Very cute property. In the best location along the seafront, slightly away from the bars and restaurants on the cliff but right on the beach still and with everything easily walkable. Breakfast was 10/10 keralan food and fresh fruit. The surf classes were really well run with smaller size groups, and I felt that we got better attention in our lessons to others on the beach with us. Had loads of fun.

A few brief spells without electricity and a few mornings we woke up without any water. All were fixed quickly once we got in touch

This is a state of an art property, well curated and designed. It’s on the corner so one gets a lot of peace and privacy. Beach is just a 2 mins walk from this property. The owner/host also offers surfing lessons on prior notice. I also got to see passion fruit for the first time in my life as it was growing right outside of my room. The staff was really helpful and kind. There is also a giant swing on the property hanging by coconut trees which makes it icing on the cake :)
