"Great location to explore the centre of York, we will look it up if we plan another stay."

9.0

This is great house, well located to explore Yor's historic centre on foot and only a few meters aways from a section of the city walls. The house is cosy, full of personality. Parking in front was no issue (parking permit supplied), once we had navigated the narrow streets. It is also withing reasonable walking distance of the train station. We didn't see in the description that there is also a downstairs toilet, which was an appreciated plus with only one bathroom for 4 guests (the house can sleep 6 with 2 on a sofa bed). The area was quiet.

Very personal but the main room bed was too soft for me and the duvet provided on the warn side for the season. The kitchen has plenty of equipment but could do with at least one large cooking pot and the frying pan has reached the end of its life.

"EXTREMELY DIRTY AVOID"

1.0

Nothing!

Extremely mouldy walls, spider webs everywhere, other people’s hair was on the bathroom floor, we found MEN NAILS,BITTEN NAILS RIGHT NEXT TO OUR BED. The property owner told us that dogs were NOT ALLOWED upstairs- which was not clarified on booking. Garden was horrendous, garden set had MOSS all over it. This property should not be allowed to be rented unless renovated. Extremely unhelpful staff, still waiting for them to cancel my reservation although it had been 10 days.

"Beautifully decorated cosy stay close to the centre of York"

10.0

What a cosy home filled with wonderful rugs, furniture, clocks, prints and books! It was so comfortable and convenient. We loved being able to do our laundry too.

I just wish we didn’t have to leave.

"Great location but the house has seen better days"

5.0

The location is great. It's a short walk to the city centre, either along the old city walls or using a shortcut just opposite the pub (Golden Ball) at the end of the road. It's also very convenient to be able to park on the road outside the house.

The property is very cluttered and very dusty. It is also not professionally cleaned, as we discovered when taking luggage to the car at 9:55am (before the 10am check-out time, which in itself is not ideal when you're on holiday) to find the owner of the property already waiting. He also did not introduce himself and expected us to know who he was, and to hand over the keys to him - the whole encounter was rather impolite and ruined our stay a little. What baffles me is that the house is cleaned at 10am, yet you are not allowed to check-in until 4pm (the pub at the end of the road is great if you need somewhere to wait). Everything in the house is very basic - you get a tiny soap and toilet paper, and that's it. The towels are clean but old, and there's a random selection of tea bags, milk and sugar sachets in the kitchen that looks like somebody just grabbed any leftover extras whenever they had a coffee in town - it's not the standard I would expect of a property at this price point and supposedly rated "very good". The house is filled with old books and old furniture, which is absolutely fine, charming and in keeping with the surroundings, but there's clutter in drawers, the books look like they were last dusted in 1982, and everything shows a lot of wear and tear, as if the owner was spending the least amount of money to make the maximum amount of profit. This could be a great place to stay if only it were professionally cleaned and managed as we were led to believe, but it looks like the agency does nothing more than answer emails and apparently inspect the property before guests arrive (we did email them to ask, as we had noticed a few comments from other guests about the property's cleanliness not being up to standard). We would definitely return to York in the future but we wouldn't be staying at this house.

"Beautiful antique home but not kid-friendly"

5.0

The location is amazing, very walkable to downtown and everything we wanted to see.

It was very difficult to stay here with small children and I don't recommend it, though it might be fun for school age children. While I can appreciate the theme decor and the antiques, everything felt cluttered and tight to the point that I felt I would knock something over every way I turned. I didn't like that there was no Wi-Fi, especially considering how poor the cell signal was there. And while I understand that York has a policy of not collecting trash from vacation units (which is itself ridiculous), it was quite a burden to be expected to take our trash with us, having nowhere to dispose of it ourselves.
