Squealing Pig Bothy

The woodburner is very effective once it’s heated up and can keep the Bothy warm and cosy all night. Jackie is a fantastic host, so welcoming and friendly and we appreciated the time she took out of her busy day to teach us about the local area and show us her loom!

We really enjoyed the off-grid element of the Bothy, but some might not.

Le côté rustique était bien

L’extérieur ressemble à une déchèterie. Des déchets de partout. Aucun effort n’a été fait sur la décoration. Ce n’est vraiment pas accueillant. Le poêle à bois ne chauffait pas bien et nous avons dû aller chercher les bûches nous mêmes dehors car elle n’en avait mis que 2. Je déconseille fortement.

We liked everything about it. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful, made us feel right at home. Great instructions on how everything worked. Comfortable maddrasses Great fireplace Clean and tidy outside toilet adjacent to the bothy Great clean and tidy Inside shower and toilet 70 metres away.

We stayed one night. We have no negative comments at this point.

Beds very basic uncomfortable Very difficult place to find Bedding was damp

Jackie came out to welcome us and to show us round and how everything worked which was super and she was a delight. She then gave us our privacy to enjoy the bothy and the great views around it but let us know if there was anything we needed just to phone. As the bothy does not have a shower itself she offered us use of the house shower which was very kind but we had one before we arrived and I had done a bit of research prior and was prepared with my dry shampoo and nilaqua- we didn't find it necessary for the 1 night we were staying but it's good to know if you are staying more than 1 night that you can have a shower. Saying that there are sinks with water you just have to pump it through and it's very easy to use. The bothy itself is cosy, comfortable and very unique, the beds were comfortable and we felt warm in them. it is well stocked with books. No TV but this was no issue, we played dominoes and cards and had a great time together. The fire is fantastic and heats the whole bothy, we watched that while talking about the things we had done that day. It was a proper holiday- it's great to switch off from the busyness of every day life and appreciate each other, the scenery and some very cute sheep and chickens nearby. The toilet situation is a weird one for me, it's not that I didn't like it.. but I didn't expect it. I didn't research that bit about the bothy. I was over the moon we had our very own private shed toilet but then Jackie explained there was no flush and sawdust was involved. My husband absolutely loved it and he said it added to the experience. This is the only thing that made me realise that we were staying in a bothy. As we were only staying 1 night however this wasn't a huge deal and we would happily come back and stay here again and highly recommend it to friends and family. It was cool to visit the black houses then stay in a modern version of them.

We had difficulty finding the location and the host met us on arrival , there were no keys

We werent aware there would be no power plugs and that the property was up a long grassy inclined, uneven path that for 2 elderly people was impossible to carry suitcases to. Plus we had to walk down to the main house to use the shower We enjoyed the location and the view but I am not sure we would have booked it if we realized the challenges However it was an expereince to stay in the uniqu style of property and the fire was cosy and the composting toilet was excellent
