"Squealing Pig Bothy"

8.0

We liked the feeling of staying in a blackhouse that hadn't been gentrified but was still comfortable and warm with everything you needed. The location was great with walks immediately from the property. Bothy is a good name for this accomodation. A stay here is more towards camping style rather than glamping, but the lugging of water, fuel etc has been done for you - thank you, John and Jackie. We also liked the fact that Jackie's family had lived there for so long and that she still is part of the weaving heritage of the islands.

This is such a unique place and just perfect for a stay on Lewis. John and Jackie were very welcoming. I only wish I had stayed longer.

"Exceeded expectations, but didn’t experience the very wild weather the area is renowned for."

10.0

An experience which is unique. Stepping back in time and trying to appreciate the difficulties many people endured in hostile environments whilst trying to make a living and support their families.

"Quirky unique cosy and charming with wonderful hosts"

9.0

Original unique and quirky, this is an exceptional place. Ancient thick stone walls and a peat fire which was really cosy. Dont expect a 5* hotel but do expect a memorable and comfortable private stone bothy with truly lovely hosts, access to a brand new bathroom with squeaky clean shower/ wc in the main house and Jackie showed us how she makes Harris tweed which was more than we expected and a really wonderful extra insight into local culture

Its great.

The location was magnificent. John and Jacky were best of hosts. Kind hardworking scottish farmers. Jacky an amazing cottage weaver. The bothy was A great place to get away from worldly materialism... they supplied all basics of camp stove cooking . Composting toilet and a lovely pete fire. Very cosy with a nice comfortble bed. I felt warm and safe and remote. Away from mainstream society. An amazing place for reflection.Recommend for any traveller wanting to get away from civilization . Lisa Mandipensa AUSTRALIA.

"A great wee adventure!"

10.0

Loved being off grid. Loved the Harris Tweed experience.

We were glad we had our own sleeping bags in addition to the bedding provided, as the weather was exceptionally cold for April.
