"Superb place to stay"

10.0

The hotel was lovely and clean, staff were excellent and the continental breakfast (with Arran cheeses) was superb. We were at the front and the view from our window was spectacular

Everything was excellent

"Short and sweet - perfect location."

8.0

Lovely staff. Great to have herbal teas in the bedroom - a rarity! Great views of the sea and the hills, and ideally located for the Kintyre ferry crossing; also well located for the whiskey distillery. Great bar downstairs where dogs are allowed. Nice walks on your doorstep.

I was too warm in bed at night. I could have done with a lighter duvet.

"Lochranza Country Hotel"

10.0

Everything else! Food was reasonably priced. The whisky was too (Arran Brewery take note - you probably use the same malt and your product is ready in a week, not three years). Aesthetics gentle, understated but comfortable. It's a community run pub and appears to be doing really well (the retired original owner lives next door and helped them sort this - has his regular seat at end of the bar. They've hired a delightful mix of folks, most originally off island, and they couldn't have been nicer. Well run, friendly, beautiful views. Will come back (but probably just drink whisky).

It's expensive for the rooms (£165.50 a night and was only me). But that's kinda of the norm these days in Scotland. The Arran beer was £6 a pint. Guessing the Islands have extra costs - but that's local. Tbf I've just bought a £7.10 pint of local beer in Islay - maybe those island supply prices go up the further out you go nowadays (and it's ten years since I've been to Outer Hebrides - £10 a pint in Uist now)?
