Maharaja Boutique Hotel Zanzibar

I had a wonderful stay at Maharaja Boutique Hotel. The property is calm, beautifully maintained, and ideal for a relaxing stay. A special mention to Anita, the property manager, who was always available and ensured all our needs were taken care of. Cecilia, the F&B manager, went out of her way to accommodate my vegan diet, even preparing dishes that were not on the menu. Nasreh was extremely helpful in arranging transport and planning our travel itinerary, which made the entire experience seamless. Overall, a very pleasant and comfortable stay. I will definitely choose Maharaja Boutique Hotel again whenever I visit Zanzibar.

Friendly and efficient staff. Anita was always available for whatever problems and requests we had. Cecilia organized a special romantic dinner in the beach for us. Maximillian gave us really good service. We enjoyed all the entertainment with dancers and singers . Asante Sana!

On the first day, the electricity stopped working for about one hour. It resumed when the new generator arrived and did not happen again. I hope there is a way to use solar power from almost eternal sunshine.

We strongly do NOT recommend this hotel. We booked the most expensive and supposedly most luxurious room, including a private pool and ocean view. Based on the photos and description, the hotel presents itself as a luxury boutique property. The reality, however, was deeply disappointing. During our stay, essential services did not function at all: no drinking water, toilet could not be flushed, repeated electricity outages, air conditioning did not work, despite extreme heat. These are not minor inconveniences — they are basic, non-negotiable standards, especially for a hotel that claims to be luxury. Additionally, the hotel advertised all-inclusive, but the reality was not all-inclusive at all. The services and offerings were significantly limited and did not match what was promised. This felt misleading and added to the overall disappointment. As a so-called compensation, the hotel offered a free “romantic dinner.” However: the hotel refused to refund any money, the hotel refused to allow us to leave early and find better accommodation elsewhere, no real or lasting solution was provided. A free dinner does not compensate for non-functional water, sanitation, electricity, air conditioning, or misleading all-inclusive claims. This response felt dismissive and unprofessional. For context, we have stayed in five different hotels on Zanzibar, including 4-star properties, and we have never had an experience even remotely this bad. This review is written as a clear warning to future travelers. Do not rely on photos, marketing claims, or the “boutique luxury” label. Based on our experience, we would never return and cannot recommend this hotel under any circumstances.

Maharaja offers a quiet relaxing enviroment with personalised services The daily alcarte menu comes in handy and it can also be personalized if one wishes. From the General Manager Shaban,F&B Cecilia ,Issa,Abdi,Mary,Maximillan and Darling all offered good care.

Frequent power outages particulary on our first day wasnt really good. A touch of the entrance from the main road and signage would come in hardy. The first impression as you get to the facility The charge of 5% when you use your card to pay.

Замечательный отель и превосходный персонал!!!Анита великолепна,она очень любит свою работу и всегда готова помочь абсолютно во всем!!Вилла с джакузи-просто супер,уединение ,тишина,зелень!!!уборка каждый день-вообщем отель превзошел все наши ожидания!!Юбилей прошел на высшем уровне!!!Всем большое спасибо!!!Очень рекомендую этот отель кто хочет именно релакса и перезагрузки!!!персонал очень приветливый и дружелюбный!Массаж супер.Море-приливы отливы очень большие много водорослей это не то место где целый день лежишь на пляже,но нам не помешало 2 раза в день наслождаться океаном,а в остальное время шикарный бассейн.Экскурсии от гостиницы тоже хорошие-логистика превос ходная.

Повар не умеет готовить морепродукты,правда креветки были не плохие,и не понятно зачем он на всех тарелках делает " декорацию"?!но в целом еда нормальная и не плохое разнообразие.

The stay at Maharaja was excellent! From the very first moment, the calm and peaceful atmosphere makes it easy to fully unwind and forget about everyday life. The staff are exceptionally warm, attentive, and always eager to help. And an extra thank you goes to Anita who was very helpful making our stay in the hotel and beyond that our complete holiday in Zanzibar even more enjoyable with her tips and support.
