Borneo Sepilok Rainforest Resort

Beautiful resort, like staying in a magic garden. Bungalows are tastefully designed, beds are comfortable and the pool is pleasant. We booked at first a triple bungalow but found it quite dark with a murky smell inside. With no problem very accommodating staff moved us into a new bungalow and brought an extra mattress. It’s a newest resort in the area and very conveniently located with a reasonable walk to the rainforest discovery center. Hotel provides a ride to the Organgutan sanctuary for 5 ringit per person.

Food options in the restaurant are limited. I don’t recommend taking anything from the “western menu”, as the cooks are not familiar with this style of cooking. Meat was very hard and mashed potatoes appeared to be from the powder concentrate. Rice and noodle dishes were ok, but after three days you get tired of those. Another downside was their breakfast. At our first day we were the only guests at the resort and the moderate buffet was served, but the second day we arrived in the morning to discover that buffet was replaced with a set breakfast of two choices - American and Asian. I don’t mind but tell me on advance. Many dishes that were at be buffet were not offered, like pancakes, that my kids liked. The stuff explained that because there are limited amount of guests they made this arrangements, but there were more guests than the first day when we were alone and received a buffet. That was quite a disappointing move considering the price of the accommodation. No hot water 😅 only if you are very lucky

Four great things about the hotel - the staff are super friendly. The location is great for all the attractions in Sepilok and Sandakan. It’s very pretty, I don’t think the photos do this place justice. The chalets are very spacious

Four not so good things. Cockroaches in the bathroom. It’s tired, especially the pool area where the sunbeds are battered and it feels un-cared for. Over three days the same cigarette butts remained in the pool showers. Although the staff are lovely, they could be a little more proactive and stop staring at their mobile phones! We did enjoy our stay but feel a lot more could be done to represent better value for money.

Ha estat genial tenir-ho tot organitzat i inclòs en el preu. Hem vist un munt d’animals i hem après moltissim! I que et recullin i tornin a l’aeroport o on tu necessitis és ideal. A més es van preocupar per adaptar el menjar en cas d’alergies o preferencies de dieta. El fet que només hi hagués wifi a la zona comú no va ser cap problema per nosaltres perquè duiem sim de dades.

No vam tenir servei de neteja la entre les dues nits que vam passar però no va ser greu. No sé si és un error o la política per estades curtes. Els wc publics estaven bastant bruts i deixats, per sort teniem el nostre propi bany.

We stayed only one night. We enjoyed the little pool, the beautiful garden along the elevated walkway to the bungalows. Good beds, spacious bungalow. Proximity to orang oetang sanctuary and sun bear sanctuary (1.1 km). We loved the rain forest discovery park and its plant discovery garden and the wildlife (birds, monkets, orang oetang) and the skybridge.

Tolles Hotel im Regenwald. Man kann gut zu Fuss zu den Orang-Utans laufen, ca 1 km. Auch zum Rainforest Discovery Centre ist es nicht weit. Das Personal an der Reception war sehr freundlich und hat für uns kurzfristig eine Tour mit Fussfahrt in den Regenwald gebucht. Tolles Frühstück. Netter Pool zum Abkühlen und Relaxen.

Das Essen im Restaurant war nur durchschnittlich.

Really big and pretty resort! The staff are lovely and the pool facilities are very nice

My only complaint was that when I booked the dorm bed it said that I was booking the last bed available, so I thought there would be other backpackers but when I arrived I was the only person there! The dorms are very far from the main reception which is a bit spooky when you’re completely alone, and people had obviously checked out the day I arrived as beds were unmade, and they remained unmade and dirty for the duration of my day (despite staff asking me if they could come in and clean and me saying yes). It was a bit unclean but nothing too awful.

Just lovely all round. The staff did their best to make our stay happy and lovely. The room was gorgeous - we were in 30 at first but I mt was a bit far away - they only put us here because they thought we might like it quiet so not to be disturbed by entertainment. We moved to room 2 directly opposite the pool and I loved it! The pool is warm and clean. The sanctuaries are a walk away but we enjoyed walking and would see monkeys on the way. The food was nice and it was all in all a lovely stay.
