Kaab was very hospitable, helped me with anything. The hostel was easy to book tours through and they often gave us lifts to places for free. It was so easy to make friends there as it was a very communal environment

The female room had twelve beds but only one bathroom, so sometimes it wasn’t available when you wanted to use it. It would also be good to have curtains over the bed for privacy

On October 22, I arrived in Oman. I went on a tour with the hostel staff. On the way back from the tour, I accidentally left my camera in the car. On October 24, I noticed that my camera was missing. I checked my bed and bag, but it was nowhere to be found. I went back to all the places I had visited with the hostel staff, but the camera was still missing. On October 25, I flew to another country. On November 1, I received a message from the tour guide who had taken me on the tour, saying, “I found someone who can look for your camera.” A few hours later, he wrote that he had found the camera and that it was now in someone else’s possession. I was surprised that my camera was found so quickly and that the person had it, because the location he mentioned was 75 km from the mosque, and he claimed the camera had been found there. The message was sent around 1 a.m. He even told me that the camera was with him and sent me the photos from my camera. I had never given him permission to access my camera, even when he asked. He demanded $400 for the camera. For security reasons, I insisted that any payment and the return of the camera be done legally, through the police. As soon as I mentioned the police, he deleted all his messages. However, I still have all the screenshots. My camera was not lost—it was hidden by the staff member named Khalil. The next day, I contacted the hostel owner. At first, he said he would help and asked me to wait a few days. But after several days, he stopped responding and ignored me. Eight days later, he wrote to me: “If you want to know—I won’t help you.”
