Montpellier de Tulbagh

Very authentic farm stay experience. The old manor house is beautiful and it feels like you are visiting family. Breakfast was around the kitchen table with a fire burning in the massive hearth, and strangers ended up as friends.

The wi-fi is not always available, and the water pressure is sometimes low.

Love the beauty and natural nature of the place.

The roads to the old house and to Rietdakkies can be better, not all your guests have 4x4.

Staff was amazing, breakfast was great. Lovely views!

Location was great - in the country but still close to the village Room was very unusual and eclectic - above the wine cellar and with about the most different entrance to a room that I have ever seen :)

No shower - a bath only and hot water was a bit of an issue on the day Room made up for it though

There was nothing to like at this visit.

We had the most horrific experience of our two day booking at Montpellier, firstly, booking special was confirmed with breakfast included. We were then told on check in "No, it's not because it was a special and that "SHE"should have taken it off. This was said to us by the reception lady. She then took a screen shot of the booking confirmation and saw it included breakfast. Still no explanation of what went wrong there.The room was filthy and full of thick dust,I asked the reception was the room cleaned and she said yes,I then proceeded to show her the dust on my hand from the dresser in the room. She then asked the cleaner to come and dust. We left them in the room only for her to call us back and say, "Here is your key you need to lock". I said it's fine leave it open none of our things are in the room but she insisted we take our key and lock. We came back to room and got ready for dinner booking, and when we got back I noticed the dust on the little table where the coffee goodies were. Also, thick dust on the headboard,scurtings, and cobwebs on walls and light fixtures...as per pics. We then decided not to stay another night and took this up with reception the next morning. Reception advised she would call the manager not sure if she is the Owner or Manager. The Manager then came to our room and said, "Are we here to relax or complain about dust"..in which I responded the place is filthy and she kept saying it's a farm and they clean everyday..I said well you paying them to do nothing as they not doing a good job. I then ran my finger on the coffee table and showed her the thick dust/dirt and continued saying they do clean..in which I responded well I didn't put the dirt here. She then said if this is how we feel and want to complain, we shouldn't book here again. She was not apologetic and kept making it like we were overreaching. No alternative solution offered to us.
