Gokayama Onsen Akaokan

I booked the Japanese style room and truly felt immersed in the culture. They provide you with transitional pajamas to wear as well which are so beautiful. I had been messaging the hotel about travel arranged to the property and they were beyond helpful and patient with me. From the moment I walked in I was welcomed with open arms and I truly felt taken care of. They really want your stay to be a great experience so they will even help you plan out your day. Unfortunately I only stayed one night but definitely consider staying at least 2 nights. I was really concerned about this portion of my trip because I am a vegetarian and I knew the options around would be slim to none. I told them I was a vegetarian and they prepared me a FEAST for breakfast and dinner!!!! The best Japanese food I had the entire trip. I will definitely be staying here again next trip around. Thank you for making me feel at home 🤎

お風呂が、疲れた身体に染み渡るお湯加減でした。朝食のお米と飛騨牛の朴葉みそ焼きがとっても美味しかった!目の前の重要文化財の岩瀬家がとっても素敵で、また行きたいと思います!

都会のシティホテルではない！ということを認識していれば、良くない点はありません！

在山上的民宿，赤尾館算是交通便利，老闆娘很有耐性，可能在山邊，房間內有飛蟲，雖然很晚了，老闆娘還是幫忙處理。此外，還幫忙運送行李到菅沼，讓我們能順利旅程，很感謝老板娘。

Extremely hot water in onsen.

Breakfast and dinner provided were sumptuous and delicious. Onsen area is modest without a view. We took the room with attached bath and toilet. Which was on the first floor. So all's good. Our bedding was removed while we were at breakfast even though we locked the door. Probably a cultural thing so just to note. Opposite was iwase house, which is great for a visit.

The level of thoughtfulness was incredible. Every detail of our included delicious and beautiful multi course dinner and breakfast was exceptional. It was all made from local ingredients, like freshly caught rainbow trouble and fiddlehead ferns. Our hosts even had drawings and English translations to explain what they served us. The location was across from the largest gassho home. I wish we had more time and had rented a car to see the other gassho homes in the area.

The beds are very firm which are normal in Asia but hard for us to sleep on. The rooms were a little dated but clean.
