We LOVED the direct access to the beach. We really liked the kind, gentle and obliging smiley service from Chamaa and his colleagues (not a lot of English but very sweet and willing, got everything we needed with the help of Google translate. I think during high season the manager who speaks excellent English would normally be there). Plentiful Lion beers on demand, and many thoughtful gestures such as spontaneously putting a new lightbulb in the lamp over our table when we were sitting in a gloomy spot, bringing me a clothes horse when they saw I was trying to find a place to dry a wet towel, and providing me with more tea unasked when they noticed our pot had run low. Huge rooms, excellent aircon, lovely view from our terrace, big pool with silky water and surrounded by lush green lawns with the white beach and best waves for both beginner surfing and wave jumping fun mere seconds beyond. We had the hotel to ourselves as it was low season (which was a bit odd at first) so they took our breakfast order the night before and provided everything according to our exact taste which was SO nice and made us feel really special. We loved the fresh fruit, poached eggs, fluffy white bread, absolutely divine chicken curry, dal and coconut sambal. I loved the chill vibe compared to some of the busier, more bangin’, Westernised resorts next door and appreciated the central spot in the middle of the arc of the bay. Excellent wave action. We had a 2-hour surfing lesson from Moody Moon immediately adjacent — just walked up to them and asked, lesson started straight away — which was brilliant and I think reasonably priced at 5,000 LKR pp (about £12.50). They also do full day surf board hire for the same price or half day for 3,000 LKR. It was only when we walked west up the bay that I realised how lucky we were to have such a peaceful spot — further west there’s masses of surf school competition and loads of westerners like little sea dodgems crowding the beach/surf.

The pool was a little bit neglected. There was a lovely pool guy who came each morning to clean it but it remained ever so slightly soupy — visibility underwater was pretty much nil — and not sure why that was. We saw them testing it for hygiene and safety every morning however and we very much enjoyed our swims in it; it was warm and soft and very pleasant. But I wonder if it could do with a deep clean. The actual pool basin structure (the edge of the pool surrounds) seemed tired too and could maybe do with a facelift. Likewise the balcony balustrades which were chipped & crumbling (but sturdy). Lighting could be improved both in the rooms (just a brighter higher wattage bulb would do) and in the outside communal area. It’s also complete invisible from the street after dark so I’d recommend putting in a lamp light to light up the signage and turn off point from the road.

Great location on the beach. The staff were so helpful and friendly, they really helped us out when our airport transfer let us down. The Sri Lankan breakfast was amazing. Really nice people

Maybe needed a few more towels and the shower head was abit weak

Room a little tried

The property is well located , with a lovely view. It has a lovely authentic simplicity to the overall feel , without frills and fancies but everything that a person needs

It needs some basic care and love here and there

Everything! Great service. The bungalow is amazing - made us feel like we were in our own house. The pool is huge and very clean. The staff were all incredible. Would definitely stay here again.
