Right on in the national park

The location is brilliant, just walk straight onto the moors, surrounded by ponies and sheep. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, no mod cons, but everything we needed. We also got a delicious complimentary breakfast which was perfect. We were made to feel extremely welcome and our visit was more about the food served in the restaurant which was incredible! So much so we ended up staying an extra night just for the food!

Staff were very friendly and helpful , the food was outstanding! They all went above and beyond to make my stay extremely enjoyable. They were very considerate towards solo travellers

Frank, who booked us in, was also the chef. There only seemed to be one other person helping. No matter how busy, Frank took us up to our room (Kings Tor) and showed us everything. Did not notice at the time of booking, but there are no televisions anywhere. Just the wonderful view to look at and passing cars to count. After 10.30pm it became the quiet place we were looking for but lights on the sign and out of the rear of the building meant dark skies were not possible....unless we took ourselves out. The breakfast was excellent, again Frank was by himself to take orders, cook breakfasts and serve them, as well as looking after walkers coming in for coffees or other drinks. The man deserved a medal!

The noise from the restaurant was horrendous. It was like they were having a conversation in our room. That coupled with the drumming of background music was bad but the smell of barbecuing meat got to be quite nauseous. The room needed a good clean. Thick dust on the bedside lights, cobwebs on the ceiling etc. Rubbish from the previous guests on the drinks tray. No spoons to stir a drink. Only one slim pillow each was provided. We found one other in the closet so at least my husband had some neck support. With the limited staffing evident it was obvious that the restaurant took pride of place. Perhaps a few college students could be hired during the summer to look after residents and ensure the rooms were clean and things like the curtains actually fitted the window. Little things, easily rectified I'm sure.

Where do I begin! Everything was 10/10 from start to finish. From the moment we stepped foot in Dartmoor Inn we were made to feel welcome. We were greeted quickly to find we had been upgraded to a bigger room which we were overjoyed with. Shown to our room which was fab; stunning views, comfy double bed and a relaxing shower. The room had everything we needed from tea & coffee to towels, hangers etc. We booked a table at the restaurant downstairs for the evening and wow, we’ve never tasted food like it. We ordered the Chefs block which was Rump, Ribeye and Ribs and we were stunned. The meat you can tell is good, local produce. Fantastic quality and the best we’ve ever had. Amazing atmosphere, staff couldn’t do more for us. Honestly couldn’t find a fault if I tried. The next morning much to our surprise we were offered complimentary breakfast which is included in the room price!!! Again, amazing quality produce; sausage, egg, bacon, mushroom, tomato, beans and toast. - WOW. I will urge anyone not to hesitate on booking a room or table here because it was the most amazing stay we’ve had as a couple, never felt more looked after or at home. We will hopefully return in the future if our paths cross that way again!

Staff were so friendly and really hard working. In particular was the bbq chef who was also up the next morning serving breakfast in the absence of management. A real credit, lovely chap and an excellent chef.

The team needed more support and the bedrooms were in need of some tlc and attention to detail.

The check-in process was very efficient and the owner(?) was extremely helpful and friendly. The pub seems to specialise in organic grilled meats and, mid-week in early July, the restaurant was busy in the evening; waitress responded well to my request for a vegetarian dinner option and the food was of a high quality.

The B&B business seems to be an after thought; the fixtures and fittings are crude and there are no TVs in the bedrooms; the bedroom cleaning regime might be a little more rigorous (e.g., removal of dead flies, carpet cleaning). The premium price for accommodation does not fully reflect the quality being is offered.
