Dartmoor Inn Merrivale

We enjoyed our overnight stay at The Dartmoor Inn immensely. Our room with views was beautiful, the steaks cooked in the restaurant were cooked to perfection and our hosts were welcoming and Frank went out of his way to ensure we were happy with everything. We will definitely be back in 2026 and hopefully bring our family with us. Thank you

Our second visit here. The staff are so welcoming, they remembered us from our last visit. The location is fabulous, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the food in the pub is incredible.

The evening meal was fantastic with a choice of steaks cooked over an open fire in the dinning room. The staff were friendly and informative.

Having visited briefly earlier in the year we returned to the Dartmoor Inn at Merrivale for the weekend, celebrating a friend's 50th. It was the most fabulous weekend. We were greeted with a warm, friendly welcome, from staff who genuinely seem to love what they do, and where they work. The rooms are comfortable, ideal for some of Dartmoor's best walks, right from the doorstep. The showstopper, however, is the food. Frank, the chef, has both passion and skill in abundance, and that shines through un everything he cooks. We had the "chef's block" on our first evening, and it set the bar high. The steak was fabulous, and cooked to everyone's liking. With some lovely wines to choose from it was a fabulous evening. A note on the service: it was superb. Friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic, there is a real family-run feel. So, how could the 2nd night top that? We needn't have worried, Frank and the team nailed it. He came up with his version of a tasting menu, with wonderful seafood, a delicious carpaccio, more incredible steak (tomahawk and chateaubriand this time), a sweet course, and cheese. Each course paired to a wine. It was absolutely delicious, both food and wine delivering the highest quality. This isn't something on the menu, but it should be. It was easily as good as anything I've had, anywhere. I've rather run out of superlatives to describe the Dartmoor Inn at Merrivale. So I will end by saying we can't wait to go back. I'm not sure there's any higher praise!

The location, food and staff were great

Our bedding wasn’t great. King size quilt squeezed into a double size quilt cover so very lumpy. King size mattress topper on double bed. No TV. Coffee not replaced.
