Hanayashiki Ukifune-en

This ryokan style property served as a sanctuary for a night. The futons were comfortable. We slept very well to the sound of the rushing river and chirping crickets. It is walking distance to shops and restaurants. We will come back again in the near future.

I will stay here again when I come back to Uji. Enjoy every moment especially when there was no crowd in the evening and early morning. Japanese breakfast was very tasty.

Room was nice, clean and spacious. Onsen was pleasant. Location was beautiful.

Asked staff some questions weeks before check-in but for some reason they only wrote back to me after check-out. Some facilities are straight up not available. It's said that they offer breakfast and dinner but they wouldn't even mention it. No washing service or at least washing machines. Instead they just told us that in a 20 min walk area there should be a self washing store. Sauna in the lower floor was not working. And at some days the Onsen would be luke-warm. Normally I'm not that picky but for that amount of money (which is a lot) I'd expect at least a problem free stay. Nothing too fancy, just problem free which wasn't the case. And even though it is at the Uji River which is ofc convenient, you have to walk 30 min every time to reach the nearest convenience store and train station. So yeah, it would have been great if you would at least be offered the option to get a hotel shuttle like other hotels.

I'd like to first thank the staff. Due to the recent typhoon causing transport issues, they were able to kindly arrange extended stay for us. And they also patiently helped us sort through our call to the next hotel to change check-in dates. Public/private bathrooms, breakfast and bedding I found all to be good. Our room had a good view from the window. The location is good if you are looking for somewhere to relax, away from the busier cities. We went to a couple of small tea houses and cafe/restaurants around the area. Uji has a local matcha factory, so I recommend at least trying one of the tea shops if you are interested. In Uji, it's quiet but the locals in restaurants seem quite happy for friendly chats.

We had already anticipated that the inn would be a bit far from Uji station. This may be a bit difficult to travel to while handling large luggages (especially during summertime). We decided to hire a taxi during check-in and check-out, which worked out well.

The staff were most kind and generous, the grounds were beautiful and the surroundings were serene and peaceful

This Ryokan is situated on the edge of the beautiful Uji River. The view was stunning! We loved the natural beauty. The staff were very kind and courteous. We would absolutely come back.
