The Retreat

Really comfortable accommodation in a quiet location. The kitchen was well equipped and there were treats for us as well. There is a lovely outdoor seating area, which we didn't use as it rained most of the time. Would be great in good weather.

Everything was perfect we had a little treat on arrival in the accommodation. Everything we needed for our stay. Chris who owns it was so lovely and friendly. Highly recommend.

Absolutely stunning location and perfect to get to, to a wedding at Newburgh Priory Estate as it's approx a 12 minute drive. The house was gorgeous and so much nicer than staying in a hotel! The firepit was excellent and a nice touch on a cold night and there's absolutely no noise even though its just off a road. Chris went the extra mile, providing tea, fresh milk, cookies and eggs and basic toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel) in the building which is a nice touch when you are dropping in and don't have time on your side. I also loved that Chris has created a booklet with lots of really helpful information: local cab companies, closest hospital etc very useful and saved a lot of time!

No major issues but the house is approx a 25 mins drive from Thirsk or York station, I'd recommend staying if you are a driver or happy to get cabs as it is very remote! For cabs you'll likely need cash as the nearest cash points are very few and far between. There are busses available but limited given the area, so is something to bare in mind.

Really clean and comfortable treats left in kitchen was a nice touch everything you need was provided, host a call away but left alone to enjoy,

Pitch black in yard. Really hard to find in freezing fog
