Gilchristland Organic Farm Retreat

The breakfasts were fine. A lovely touch the first morning in that the 2 children helped their Mum to bring it in to us! A quiet location in the hills. A small working farm. Garden and rhodedendrons as on the website pictures, and bluebells in the woods - as we were there in the right season! The large room is set up with all kinds of period furniture. The central heating when needed was quick to warm the large room. Lovely big bathtub. Narrow lanes to reach the farm, but positioned quite well for different routes when reach main road.

Sorry we couldn't give a higher response, due to lack of some facilities - particularly running water in kitchen. However, having been used to more basic kinds of accommodation and living, we were OK, and John and Eleanor did offer to take things to their own dishwasher, but we managed fine without this. A little brighter lighting in main room would have been helpful, especially as the weather was pretty grey! It is still a 'work in progress'. John & Eleanor are very hard-working indeed and life often can't be easy for them.

Lovely cosy accommodation. Massjve bedroom / sitting room.Kitchen great but a work in progress. All good. Unfortunately weather was rainy so not strolling about to explore. Ventured out to Thornjill and Dumfries so lots to do

Beautiful location and very unique accommodation. Loved it! Eleanor and john were superb hosts and made our stay extra special.

Die Lage ist schon toll. Das Zimmer riesig mit einem großen Himmelbett, Sitzecke und Kamin. Es ist absolut ruhig. Und der Preis natürlich unschlagbar.

Das ganze hatte schon etwas von einem Geisterhaus. Schlecht zu finden so das wir erst beim Nachbarn standen. Angekommen hatten wir nach einiger Wartezeit einmal kurz Kontakt zu einer jungen Frau die scheinbar gerade aus dem Stall kam. Alles war kalt und klamm als wir in die Räumlichkeiten an der Rückseite ankamen. Aber die Heizung funktionierte als wir sie einschalteten. Die Türen lassen sich nicht verschließen. Die Tür zum Garten haben wir dann mit einem Stuhl und Büchern unter der Türklinke gesichert. Die Tür zum Flur ebenfalls mit einem Stuhl unter der Klinke. Der riesige Raum hat ein mehrere Quadratmeter großes Oberlicht das sich nicht verdunkeln lässt.

Just... Wow! A very unique and comfortable place with the most breathtaking garden. The hosts were incredibly helpful throughout. Would love to go back!

Very spacious room with lovely antiques and artifacts. Patio doors to the lawn, trees and stunning views beyond. Eleanor was very helpful and welcoming. Beautiful fresh multi-coloured eggs.

Nothing really . It was disconcerting that it was cold in the property when I arrived which was, initially , a worry , but I contacted the owner who popped round and just as she explained , very soon after the heating was switched the place was really toasty ! So perhaps better instructions for visitors would be helpful .

Kitchen under development. Host offered cooked or continental breakfast. Chose to go out. When kitchen finished it will be brilliant for self-catering. Bought dozen of farm's organic special breed hen eggs. 😋 Massive bedroom/sitting room. Beautuful old furniture and lovely colourful soft furnishings. Lovely and warm. Very comfortable bed. Wifi worked really well. Large screen tv but we preferred to listen to the birds and enjoy the peace. Would definitely go back when we in the area again. Hosts very friendly, came to say hello on arrival. Provided useful info booklet.

That we weren't there for longer!

Location was poor They need to improve the directions to get to the property a lot better than what it is what it is now . On a plus note this was real value for the money we paid
