I love the location. I used to spend a lot of time in the area, and I was really looking forward to having a lot of guests over. Unfortunately they did a bait and switch and so I was unable to stay there.

This is for 91 West End Ave. I had booked it ahead of time, and arrived at about 8pm. I spoke to the owner in English and in Russian. The instructions were to find Nikita at a store nearby. I find him and the first thing he says is 'Can you pay cash or with Zelle?' Hmmm... smells like a scam. So I says Sure, but can I see the apartment first? We head up stairs and find an apartment about half the size I reserved on the 4th floor. But it looks quite similar to the one I booked. So likely the one I booked is in the building, and they give it when it is empty, but if it is not empty because they double-booked it, they just bait and switch you. Either you give them Zelle and your money is gone, or you feel helpless at 8pm in a scary city and just eat it. So some reviews are from people who actually get to stay in the real rental, others are like me who were shown the nice place and given a less nice place. They are booking this rental through several outlets, taking payment from zelle, or cash, cancelling the rental with booking.com, and pocketing the payment without paying the listing fees. I was in no danger, Nikita is 5'8" and about 150lbs, I am 6'5" and 270. They did not get my money, and I lived in NYC for 15 years, so I can go wherever I want, and I speak fluent Russian, so they could not talk in code to each other. There was no downside for me, so I spent time getting to know their scam. I say to Nikita, 'my friend, it is not ok that they make you do this. Do they pay you well to lie and steal from people? Is it worth this? You have all this stress. You get your picture taken and you have to look people in the eye as they yell at you and scream and get angry. Am I angry? No... I know you are the victim here. You need to find a new job my friend.' He looks down and says... 'I need to find a new job' quietly to himself.' Hopefully Booking.com passes this to other outlets.

Location

Neither I nor the party we were traveling with (who arrived the day before us...from a different country) were allowed to use our credit cards. Owner/manager (alex) told us we could only pay by cash, apple pay, or zelle. We attempted to resolve with booking.com. Booking rep called him and he told them he accepted credit cards. He told them our credit cards didnt work. (Both us and friends the day before) Oddly enough, they worked just fine for the rental car before I arrived at the hotel and for the hotel I had to book after I was kicked out for refusing to pay Alex in cash.
