Hotel Samanala Sigiriya

The host, Saman, was helpful in organising transport for us for our trips to Lions Rock and Pidurangala Rock (at sunrise). The property was located off the main road which meant is was very quiet at night.

The mattress had a dip in it, assuming from overuse, making it uncomfortable to sleep at night. The shower pressure was low, although this is normal for the region.

Saman is the best host ever, always ready to help with everything. He was incredibly kind, driving us everywhere in his car or arranging a tuk-tuk whenever needed. He even woke up at 5 am to take us to Lion's Rock to see the sunrise. He also picked us up late at night from the center of Sigiriya, which he always offered to do. He knows all the best spots in Sigiriya and recommended fantastic places to eat and enjoy a massage (it was a truly spiritual experience, and the massage itself was deeply relaxing, ending with a herbal steam sauna). The hotel is very clean, and there's also a pool (without chlorinated water), which was cleaned daily and perfect for relaxing after an intensive day. The breakfasts were also excellent, with everything fresh.

The service is world class. Saman and team really want to make you feel at home. The swimming pool and garden are great to chill out after exploring the area. Saman can arrange pretty much anything for you. No need to book activities before you get there, he will beat any quote with a phone call!

The bathroom was very basic. There was an unpleasant smell. Only a trickle of water in the shower. There's no glass in the window, just a mesh, which doesn't keep the mosquitoes out. Not a bathroom where you want to spend a second longer than strictly necessary.

Relaxing place. Kind and very helpfull personal, Saman great host and a hard worker. If you like to be in the jungle but by the main road, this is right place to stay. Greetings to master Saman, keep on good work my friend!

A boutique hotel with a gorgeous pool, serene outdoor with hammock in lush gardens, big rooms with modern bathrooms and comfortable beds, a great breakfast, good local menu, really lovely team, and Samran is a super host. Our family loved our two days there. Also, 500m in either direction are an array of other great restaurants with Lions Rock a 5 min car drive away and the Eco Park, 20 mins away. Big tip - book your Safari trip through Samran for better price, more flexibility and to be in the know as to where the elephants are that day.

Very friendly staff and owner who made our stay super comfortable. Free water readily available, nice pool. We already had a driver and activities booked, otherwise they were being very accommodating and able to organise direct. 5-10 mins into town / Lion Rock

The air con unit in room was a little loud to be on overnight but we just went without.

Swimming pool. Spacious room.

Breakfast. Instead of serving traditional rice and curry which is nice they serve western type of breakfast which is not the best.

Staff were very friendly and helped organise trips. The pool area is very nice and well maintained. There were further upgrade works ongoing to the exterior of the property which should make it even better. I booked a safari through Saman the owner and the guide was very good and I saw many elephants on my own even though the park was busy that day.
