Very cool location, great food and comfortable room

Air conditioning in room wasn’t great, but better than to be expected from a 300 year old building

This is an amazing hotel with incredible facilities. We booked through booking dot com and our booking included the private dining option. This comprised a special 8 course Japanese tasting menu for dinner as well as a multiple course Japanese breakfast. We dined and walked about the hotel in the yakatori and haoris they provided. The hotel has many onsen opportunities, which were fabulous. It was also good to be able to photograph the iconic red bridge in front of the hotel, which was the inspiration for the Spirited Away Ghibli movie. All in all, an incredible experience.

The three bath experiences. Exploring and discovering the whole building. The Sanso Standard room is very spacious, with closet area and enclosed balcony for tea. Every meal is a feast. Outside the hotel, some simple walks - follow the river downstream to Shima Potholes, or upstream to Shimagawa Dam.

In the common areas, there were some unsightly marks - carpet stains, moisture on walls or ceilings. The artwork on display wasn't very calming (but then art is subjective). Other than that, nothing much to dislike.

Most amazing hotel room we have ever stayed in. Super traditional but well worth the cultural experience. Dinner was all Japanese 7-course meal. This isn't the type of hotel you can ask for chicken fingers in. So be ready, but embrace the experience.

Удобно добраться с Токио на JR Express, далее на автобусе. Рекан один из самых лучших, где мы остановились. Изумительный ужин и завтрак.

Онсен не тату френдли. В самом городе почти все было закрыто. Из развлечений аренда велосипеда.
