Gandan Terrace Guesthouse

Host专门开车去火车站接我，拿着我的名字，太可爱了！最后也是Host夫妇开车送我去的机场，这个地方离甘丹寺很近，离市区有些距离，但也是另一种感受当地人生活的方式。第一天下午在露台上看到了雨后的双彩虹！

地点稍微有点远

Excellent place. The room was simple but had everything i needed. Shared spaces are clean and the kitchen and the living room is big and equipped with all. Markets are two minutes by walk and city center is 15 mins by cab. You’re also in the middle of the local life so it gives you more insight on how the Mongolians live into their day to day lives. The temple you see at the end of the street is beautiful to visit for the morning prayers. As a solo female, it made me feel safe to know the family is living on the first floor and you can ask all your questions directly as they’re local. I highly recommend this place and I will definitely stay here again in the future.

There was only one electric socket in the room so I recommend managers providing an extension cable with multiple charging sockets. It was a bit hard to charge multiple devices each night. Everything else was excellent.

The lady was super sweet and very available. The location is central. The transport to the airport was friendly, reliable and cheap (I recommend taking advantage of the possibility). The house is huge and had a terrace, which was very pleasant for dinner. The common kitchen and bathroom were stocked with a bunch of essentials (shower gel, fresh fruit, etc).

The location felt a tad sketchy. Our guide (born in UB) advised us to be careful there after nightfall. The walls of the bedrooms were paper thin. We weren't given any towels for showering. There are two bathrooms on different floors. If someone is taking a shower on the second floor, you will only get cold water on the first floor. The lady had a very basic command of English, which made communication before arrival a bit of a challenge. Overall this hostel felt too pricey for what it is!

The owners were very friendly and helpful and provided a lovely breakfast each morning. They were helpful with advice about all things asked and very attentive to my needs. The upstairs terrace and common room were very welcome as I need a couple of days to chill out.

Hot water was a little intermittent

Gandan Guesthouse offers excellent value for money, especially considering its central location near the Gandan Monastery and well-known hotels like the Holiday Inn and Premium Hotel. It’s a family-run business with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The rooms are spacious and clean. While the beds are on the harder side, this seems fairly typical for Mongolia—in my experience, hotels across Ulaanbaatar and even in places like Ölgii tend to have firmer mattresses. The guesthouse offers private rooms with shared bathrooms and toilets on each floor. The shared spaces are kept tidy, and the WiFi connection is reliable. The showers are perfectly decent, and overall comfort is good for this price range. One small cultural detail: you're asked to leave your shoes at the entrance, and slippers are provided to help keep the place clean—especially helpful with all the dust and sand around. All in all, a solid choice if you're looking for a budget-friendly, authentic, and well-situated place to stay in Ulaanbaatar.

Although the location is central, it can be a bit tricky to find the place the first time. I recommend using their airport pickup service, which is convenient and fairly priced.
