Vernice Backpacker Hostel

Particularly liked the kitchen facilities - so rare in Laos. & the manager was always willing to do what he could to improve my stay when asked.

Best experience ever in a hostel. I could not believe it. I was such in despair when I got into Vernice Backpaker hostel. My cards would not work in the ATMs. I was far from home with my 3 big children and no money. Luckily I met Sandeep :) He has been so cheerful and so helpful he lent us money! gave me a ride to a shop! + to the market the next morning! and so on and so forth... I also saw him giving a ride to the ambassy to a stressed young girl. I saw him being kind to everybody. We shared meals, conversations. He has been so kind to the children too. Do not expect a 4 star hotel. It is a backpacker hostel. Sandeep does everything by himself. He is very implicated hardworking and does his very best to keep the place clean (would be easier if all guests were cleaning after themselves in the kitchen for example…) Sandeep told me that what makes him happy is seeing everybody happy. Another friend said that hosting is about being generous. Not thinking to much about money. Well here we are. Sandeep is a marvelous host. And the Vernice backpacker Hostel is a basic but friendly place, with a useful kitchen outside, the opportunity to meet nice travelers and an angel too. Thank you 🙏

Brilliant value for money. Certainly if you get a private room. It's basic but you get what you pay for. I enjoyed my 3 days here.

The guy managing the property is really nice he exchanged money for us and helped thought the stay. It’s also very cheap. The outside is really nice it has a lounge area with plants and kitchen.

There are people I think living there for long periods of time that are only men. We didn’t find it really safe in our room as they are always there. There is one bathroom for all the rooms that’s really dirty, the trash can was overflowing. Place hasn’t been really renovated the door to the room didn’t really properly close and was very loud. The top bunks weren’t really safe I was scared I’d fall. It’s also not in the city center you can easily walk to the night market and the river but not any other attractions.

It's very nice man staff! He didn't hesitate to help when I had motorbike accident. The place is nice and so friendly. It's very safe for woman traveller alone.

- dirty room. Not cleaned properly - constantly itching, rubbish on the floor including chicken skin under the bed and an empty water bottle - staff asleep in the lobby on the floor virtually all the time - roadworks going on down the road outside - uncomfortable environment - windows are blacked out so it feels stuffy - when we got there we had to wake staff who told us at first we didn’t have a booking and we just had to sleep anywhere. Then he seemed to snap out of this and helped - Vientiane as a city was not for our tastes at all anyway apart from the night markets - we got on a sleeper bus to our next destination asap! - we stayed in a private room but the hostel part/dorm room door just seemed open all the time - would NOT recommend - I would especially not feel safe there if I were on my own

The host was very kind, good atmosphere and good conversations with the guests. In an area a bit away from the main center so it is a nice way to see a less touristy part of the city.
