"Picturesque!"

9.0

Toki to Toki is located right on the main avenue, right across from a picturesque row of traditional buildings. It is itself a traditional building, in beautiful condition, lovingly updated. The breakfasts (we had breakfast both days there, but had dinner out) was very well done. We had a carefully created Japanese style breakfast, sitting in the third-floor lounge with an amazing view of the street. There was lots of extra rice, tea, soup, and coffee. The staff, mostly women from Myanmar, worked hard and were eager to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a great view of the street. Lovely all around.

"The attention to detail here is NEXT LEVEL."

10.0

This small, boutique ryokan was perfect for us. They only have a small amount of rooms, so you get really amazing attention from the staff. Everyone there did everything to make our short stay (only one night) amazing. Location is perfect - a quick 5 minute walk up the main street from the train station and right across the bridge. It's also directly beside Jizo-yu Onsen. When you check in, they serve you tea and castella cake while going over the information from the hotel. We have booked dinner with our stay and it is SO MUCH FOOD (sashimi, steamed foods, an entire upstairs salad/sides area, a Tajima beef bowl plus desserts). They took our photo during dinner and then at the end gave us a framed photo to take home with us. The attention to detail here is next level. The room was a good size and the beds were like clouds. The toilet room was a little bit small for me but absolutely not a deal breaker. This hotel does not have bath/showers in the room. They have two baths on the 1st floor off the lobby.

I was a little sad that they didn't have a yukata that fit me. If you are a womens US size 20 or larger, just be aware of that. I ended up having to go to the other baths in my jeans and sweater. They also have a little food stand on the front of their building that smells like steamed crab. So sometimes the first floor smells like steamed crab.

"Total Pampering in Kinosaki!"

9.0

Staying at Kinosaki onsen Tokitotoki is a remarkable experience in hospitality; the attentive staff, the delicious (and copious) food, and, of course, the access to the onsens! From the minute you arrive, you are pampered! We arrived, and were poured a lovely blooming tea and given a small sweet while we checked in. The manager of the hotel met with us and explained theh evening's activities and services, then walked us up to our room. The room itself was very clean and quite spatial (compared to other Japanese hotels). There was an overwhelming amount of food and drink available - happy hour, dinner, cake and cheese, and breakfast. Truly dizzying! The hote is located near several of the onsens and yakatas are provided. I was very happy with all the amenities. The price we paid here was similar to what we paid at another onsen hotel, where we did not have use of the springs (because tattoos). When we left, the hotel staff gifted us a small frame with a photo they had taken the night before! This really blew me away. It's a lovely place and really helped charm us into loving Kinosaki. Crucially - all the baths in Kinosaki - and at this hotel in particular - are tattoo-friendly, so you are able to use them, regardless of your inked status.

The room did get a lot of street noise when the windows were open. I could hear very little wtih the window closed. I don't think this could have been improved unless you booked a hotel off the main drag. There was something very charming about hearing the wooden geta rushing about on the cobblestone - but the loud yelling and carousing of other tourists was not so great. We eventually closed our window. I also was quite surprised how little information within the hotel has been translated to English (or any other language). The vast majority of the clients at this hotel are not Japanese (the hotel is small and there are only 5-6 rooms; when we were there, all but 1 were occupied by English-speaking visitors). However, food labels, instructions in the room, and even our cute little message ghost, all had Japanese writing. I understand that many people will see this as authenticity, and that's fine. I found it a bit annoying, as I constantly had to pull out my phone to help translate even what options existed for drinks.

"Must-stay ryokan"

10.0

Tokitotoki is a fantastic little ryokan near the Kinosakionsen station. The staff are so kind and helpful and there is food and snacks around the clock. The two private onsen are really nice, and the beds are the most comfortable we've had so far in Japan. There's are only a few rooms, so the ryokan is very quiet. We stayed at a pricier ryokan the following night and found Tokitotoki to be much cozier and have better amenities. Would absolutely stay again.
