Forestscape Resort Munnar

This lovely retreat is hidden away among tea plantations which spread out as far as the eye can see. We were welcomed by Sibim and Athul who offered us a cup of delicious tribal coffee - a welcome treat after several hours on the road. Our room had the most fabulous view across the hills to the mountains beyond. Breakfast each day consisted of local dishes - mild curries and rice accompaniments - as well as toast with jam and butter, omelette, coffee or tea, and beautiful watermelon and pineapples, which are grown locally. Forestscape also offers lunch and evening meals, all cooked fresh, using quality ingredients, to the excellent standard and the excellent value for money we've come to expect after a fortnight in Kerala. On an evening we could enjoy the cool air on the balcony or sit around the camp fire and listen to music. The beautiful and peaceful surroundings are ideal for relaxing on the balcony and admiring the view, but there are plenty of opportunities for hiking - we went into the forest on our own, but on another day we arranged a guided hike and this was much better. For 300 rupees our guide, Thomas, took us high up into the forest, pointing out plants and animals - we ate cardamom seeds, green peppercorns and wild raspberries straight from the plant, and we saw giant Indian squirrels and monkeys in the trees. This was among the best things we've done in Kerala so far. The hotel staff can arrange for a tuktuk to take you to a cave system where a tiger lived until it was flooded out, and then on to an elephant watering hole - we were lucky enough to see a female and a male elephant drinking there. Munnar town is well worth a visit - the bazaar is a riot of colours, sounds and smells! On the day we visited there was a festival going on at the Hindu temple and we watched a vibrant procession of dancers, drummers and music. Finally a great big thank you goes to Sibim at Forestscape who could not do enough for us - nothing was too much trouble.

One word of advice for international tourists - Google pay only works if you have an Indian bank account. Make sure you have enough cash to cover your bill.

The view from the room is stunning! It’s a quiet place, beautifully located. You definitely need a car. Very friendly staff!

Communication with was extremely poor. The room and shower were not clean. Shuttle that was organised through reception stoped at random places on the way to run personal errands. I would not go here again as a solo traveller.

Production of the bill was slow. I requested the amount the evening before we left so I could do a bank transfer. despite several reminders it did not apear until it was too late to do as our taxi was waiting. I had to use a mix of sterling and cash thatI would have preferred to keep.

I like everything! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms are immaculately clean and very spacious, I loved this place and it's location. Special thanks to Mr Sibim for his friendliness and readiness to help.

View and scenery. Breakfast was good.

Manager wasnt there and we werent checked in properly. The staff did try but they were out of their depth. No hot water for showers. Breakfast and dinner were not as stated times and completely random. Our first night we ate at 9.30. Food served luke warm. Told price of excursion before and then price changed after completion. All the hotel staff played really loud music past the 10pm curfew set by the hotel. Says its a resort but is actually a farm stay. Pool was not maintained and couldnt be used if you wanted to.
