Koyasan Space

The host Paola was amazingly gracious and very attentive. The space is very clean and comfortable. You get access to a really nice living space, and the outdoor garden where she grows food is lovely to sit in. The bathroom includes an ofuro which was very relaxing at the end of a busy day. I felt like a very-well-cared-for houseguest in someone's very cozy home. The location is a bit farther out from most of the sites, that said, it's no more than a 10 minutes walk or so from the center and frequent bus stop locations; it was no problem. Also it is next to the start of a nice trail at Diamon gate (be sure to get yourself a map at the visitor's information center).

We place hopeful, often outsized expectations on holidays especially after a long hiatus such as the one caused by the pandemic for me. My wonderful stay at Koyasan Space had met and surpassed my expectations and even proved magical at times. From the moment Paola warmly welcomed me to her beautiful home, to the intentional routine I have set for myself in these tranquil settings, the meaningfully connected conversations we had, and the thoughtfully prepared meals served in the vigorously alive garden each morning, care and authentic hospitality emanated from every aspect of this space that is evidently a labour of love. I heartfully recommend a stay at Koyasan Space, for those who seek meaningful experiences and connections within truly resonant surroundings.

I cannot recall one undesireable aspect during my entire time at Koyasan Space.

The location was optimal as it is close to three out of 4 of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. The home made breakfast was a delight (bonus if the weather allows you to have it in the lovely garden). The host is very nice and brings a lot of warmth to the experience (vs hotels).

Clean environment.

I booked 2nights in koyasan space and I stayed one night. The reason I want to leave messages is to tell other customers to keep safe. When I arrived Koyasan space at 10am at 26th July, I knew there was one staff (also boss) and there would be one customer at the same time. When I checked in, I didn’t receive the key of my room, then I realized there was no lock of my room. (The website of booking dot com doesn’t show the information) When I took a shower, then I realized there was no lock of the showering room. (The website of booking dot com doesn’t show the information) I felt kind of scared my room has no lock. no lock in private room, no lock in showering room, that will be scared for single girl. 🙏🏻 Thank you.

Relaxing and a good location. Good for foreigners

The spotty wifi connection was the only negative.

I emergency booked this place at the last minute as my hiking plans were interrupted by a bear. Within 10 mins of booking I arrived and was immediately greeted with open arms by Paola. Paola is an incredible host and an amazing person who went above and beyond to provide unbelievable food, inside information on the unmissable parts of Koyasan (including fire ceremonies), an intracate and beautifully designed home, and a cappuchino that far surpassed the expectations of even a Melbournian. Staying at Koyasan Space, though not originally part of my travel plans, was the highlight of my trip and will be something I remember forever. I was very lucky to have encountered that bear in the forest, as it lead me to this amazing experience. Thank you very much Paola.

There are places you give five stars to because you liked it, and then there are places like this, which redefines what five star means. Absolutely perfect in every way. Paola is an incredible hostess and was attentive to every detail!

Beautifully decorated house, loved the linen sheets and areas to relax in. I liked the homemade breakfast too. The host was very welcoming and helpful.

It was a bit of a hike to the cemetery and no evening meal option, unlike the temple accommodation in town.
