Residenza Palazzo Marchesini

The view from the patio and rooftop was spectacular! We had breakfast our first morning on the patio, surrounded by multitudes of flowering roses and other plants, red tile rooftops, and church bells. The breakfast was plentiful, served by Carlo and his partner, who were attentive and friendly. Carlo made us feel truly welcome--not like we were just staying there in a B&B. He gave us excellent dinner recommendations and helped with reservations if needed. We never made it back to the palazzo to take him up on the afternoon aperitif due to our sightseeing, but he offered every day, and we would have enjoyed that for sure. Being dog lovers and missing ours at home, we were delighted to meet his little black dog (Blythe--not sure how to spell it). She was so sweet, friendly, and well behaved! Carlo was kind enough to volunteer to help carry our (heavy) luggage up many stairs--we knew that there was no elevator but it was totally worth it to stay in this historic palazzo. (We will pack lighter next time and bring back fewer gifts!) Our son nicknamed him "Papa Carlo" because he always made us feel at home.

Carlo was awesome! He carried my wife's luggage up the stairs. The breakfast was wonderful and his recommendations and reservations for dinner were excellent! Will stay there again for sure! Thank you Carlo!

The service, Carlo not only bent over backwards to accommodate our dietary requirements and provide a delicious, Italian style breakfast, he was a great host. We had lots of great chats, and he provided invaluable information for our stay. A true Italian experience with a gentleman as host. If we come to Bologne again, we will stay with Carlo..

Carlo is an excellent host. From greeting you, to helping park your car, to carrying your bags, offering a welcome drink and appetizer, and having a beautiful breakfast spread every morning and more! You can tell he’s very passionate about his BnB and about Bologna.

Really lovely old building. You can feel the history. The owner, Carlo, is great. Full of fascinating info about Bologna and knows all the best places to eat and sights to see. Added to that he cooks a great breakfast

As Carlo himself said, sadly the people who built the palazzo didn’t know about lifts ! Whatever you do, don’t let that stop you staying here. Just pack light !

Never met such a friendly host! Very authentic location in old palazzo with historical interior. Fantastic rooftop. Delicious breakfast made by the host. Overall one of those stays which makes a difference.

Cold in the beginning but heating with air conditioner helped. There is no sign outside, which was a bit confusing upon arrival, but good contact with host.

A great breakfast and great host who tried to fullfill all of our wishes. The Palazzo Marchesini is a building from the 15. century and is located directly in the center of Bologna. It is filled with historic things and has a rooftop terrace with a breathtaking view about the old city (see picture below)

Fabulous hospitality from our host, Carlo. Beautiful, spacious room in historic palazzo with private and very pleasant terrace. Great breakfast. Very charming, homely atmosphere.

Be prepared for 74 stairs, but Carlo helped us with the luggage and the view was great, especially from the rooftop terrace.

Carlo is an incredible host! He welcomes you and not only makes you wonderful breakfast every morning but takes the time to recommend and make dinner reservations, reserve taxis and give wonderful recommendations for walking tours, city activities and shops to visit. This is a beautifully maintained historic family home in the heart of Bologna - picturesque and rooms are gorgeous with views of the red rooftops and bell tower. There is a parking spot available in the courtyard. This is a true vacation getaway and we will be recommending to friends and family! If we are fortunate enough to be in Bologna again we will be staying here!!! I miss it already.
