Riverdance Cottage

Everything was perfect, we loved the cottage it was cozy and the atmosphere was everything. My husband loved that he could do some canoeing. The host was awesome. We loved everything about it.

A lovely setting alongside the banks of the Breede River. Gorgeous, comfortable and fit-for-purpose little cottage which served as a perfect place for a much-needed, off the beaten track getaway. The biscuit snack for both adults and our fur baby as well as the handmade soaps was a great touch! Wide open space and breathtaking view!

House was cold. A heater wiuld be very usefull.

Rural Riverdance Cottage has a commanding view from the hillside above the Breede River. Our gracious hostess Madi greeted us with a bottle of locally produced extravirgin olive oil, plus a little counter top bag of cookies awaited us upon arrival. The cottage is compact without being claustrophobic, and its terrace is a relaxing spot from which to observe activity on the river. Our stay in Malgas also gave us interesting exposure to the nearby riverside Malagas Hotel and pub, where we enjoyed several meals and visited the closeby Sijnn Winery (Saturdays), made a day trip to the De Hoop Nature Reserve (the Fig Tree restaurant is a 'must'), plus we ventured across the Breede on its picturesque motorized pontoon ferry during a departure day visit to Witsand. We previously dined on pub grub at Grunter's, adjacent to the Breede River Trading Post, the local source of grocery supplies. Both are located at a crossroads on the way in. There is a petrol facility adjacent to the hotel. To my pleasant surprise, there were no mosquitoes during our stay.

After turning off the smooth main paved road, it becomes a rather rough, winding, somewhat rocky graded track, whose bark is far worse than its bite. A couple of trips in and out and you'll come to like it. Watch for tortoises - we saw quite a few! Follow Madi's explicxcit instructions carefully, and you'll have no problem locating the property. If you're about to give up and think you've overshot, go just a little father and you'll find it! Pay attention to the numbers.

Great peaceful place with lovely views over the river, off the beaten track. Very well equipped and nicely decorated. Great hospitality - thank you Madi! Around 30 minutes drive to Potberg (part of De Hoop), where we would recommend taking a circular trail with beautiful views over the ocean and De Hoop reserve. Around 50 minutes drive to the other part of De Hoop with its picturesque coastal trail. Local pub has a great ambiance and offers very good food. Stock up on your way as the local store offers basic food only.

Not that it bothered us, just be mindful that the roads around the area are bumpy dirt roads. We have VW T-Cross and it worked well.
