Nothing could have been better

From the minute you walked into this grand room, you knew you had hit jackpot! From the elegant stairs case that leads to your spacious bedroom. It is the private sitting room that wins the show. You feel like you are stepping back in time. Especially when you step out onto your two balconies that look out across the river. This place is truely magical. Perfect position, 5 mins to the university and 5 mins to the main strip. So clean you could eat off the floor. I loved the smell of the wax that had obviously been used on the wood floor and paneling. Bathroom is small but all you need. Ana the host was lovely and accomodating. Breakfast was in the kitchen and a great spread of anything you like. Value for money +++

My wife and I had a lovely two days’ stay at Anto Canto while visiting Coimbra. Beautiful historic building with a great location- close to the university. Ana is a fantastic host. She is very good in recommending places to visit and restaurants to go to. She truly cares about her guests and is very generous. We can definitely recommend to stay at Alto Canto.

The genuine warmth, welcome and ease of the host Ana is exceptional. Right from the moment of booking, to arrival and throughout my 4 day stay. The location is utterly fabulous, with an unbeatable view across the river below, extremely peaceful, yet within minutes of the old town bustle. Then the room itself is elegant, high ceilinged and couched in original wood paneling with an extraordinary sense of space. Sharing breakfast at the central table in the original kitchen was a highlight in the day, beautifully served and always some delicious fresh pastry, fruit, yoghurt, cheese, ham and irresistible fresh bread rolls. Couldn't find a more perfect place to stay - even the parking was easy and plentiful and right outside the door! I look forward to being back next time I'm wandering through Coimbra.

From the greeting message from Ana, to the flexibility afforded during the stay, to the check-ins to make sure we had everything we needed, it really was an exemplary demonstration of how to make your guests feel welcome. A lovely room with great views over the river and easy access to the centre of town.

Location was perfect. Ana was very welcoming and always responded quickly. Joana made us a fabulous breakfast (with fresh eggs from her own chickens!). Cannot say enough good things about this place. Stay here!!
