The House with Two Front Doors

It’s a large former home so my bedroom was spacious. Breakfast is served in a large kitchen and is therefore very homely and welcoming.

The property was built in 1520, so you just had to watch your step and head at times but that was part of the charm.

Rachael is an absolute star! She couldn’t do enough for everyone staying. We especially loved the breakfast each morning- Fresh bread and pastries, yoghurts etc and Rachael cooked us eggs, bacon etc. We will definitely be coming back! The location is great! Close to the station and the town.

It is such a lovely property to stay in! We stayed in the Smugglers Suite, and it was very cosy. We were fascinated by the ship’s beams in the room. We stayed 2 nights. Rachael is a lovely host and cooked two very fine slap up breakfasts for us each morning. Lovely conversations and we felt extremely welcome. We highly recommend staying here. It’s also in a great position. Because of its location you can’t park directly onsite, but don’t let that out you off. The Strand car park, is a 2 min walk from the accommodation which worked really well.

Just about everything! The building is situated on one of the most picturesque streets in the country, the house itself dates back to 1520 and has a fascinating history, as recounted to us over breakfast by the excellent caretaker. The suite was full of character (even the uneven, sloping floors!) but very comfortable, with masses of space; breakfasts were substantial and different each morning. It was very much as if we were guests in a historic town house and made to feel welcome in every way. Highly recommended for something out of the ordinary, and as far from a bland national (or international) chain hotel as one could imagine.

We wish we could have stayed longer!

The house was beautiful and our bedroom was massive. The bed was very comfy. Had a good bathroom, with double sinks and a bath with a shower. The breakfast was very nice and the hosts were lovely. It is in a great location.

It was a shame that the fireplace in our bedroom was covered up. Would of liked a t.v in the bedroom.

It was exactly what we wanted from our stay; a calming environment in a cottage right in the middle of Rye. The room was the perfect size and amenities endless. Rachael was the most amazing host.

Despite having never previously met our host, our stay nonetheless felt like visiting an old friend who happily cooked an excellent breakfast for us whilst chatting.
