The Old Vicarage Lodge

Everything. Check In details were perfect. The accomodation was excellent. The host provided additional groceries beyond those advertised. Very quiet location. We could have settled in here for weeks if we had the time!

My wife slipped and fell on the mossy timber deck during wet weather. Luckily no long term injury, however this needs to be fixed with non-slip paint. The deck must be crossed to exit the property.

This is a cosy little pad tucked away in a pleasant part of Prestwich. Modern and clean. Comfy bed.

There were no manuals or guidance notes to anything e.g. the heating, local facilities e.g. pubs and doctors as one usually finds in self-catering accommodation. One just had to find things out for oneself. The real challenge was getting the electric hob to work. This is the a least the 3rd time I have struggled with one of these. The problems is that one is reliant on electronics which don't always work. It's so much easier to have gas rings or good old electric rings. Nevertheless, the owner did come round and fix the hob, bless him! Could do with more spoons and a sponge, cloth or kitchen towels to wipe things, though a thick towel was provided. The lodge is situated in a corner of the grounds of an old house, though the owner does not appear to live there. One has to cross slippery decking to reaching it. Not 8 minutes walk from Heaton Park tram station as the owner claims, more like 15 at a brisk pace, horrible on a rainy day.

Spotless place and lovely breakfast snacks left by the host

The sofa bed isn't fit for purpose unfortunately especially when two adults are on it, let's it down. Needs replacing!

The lodge was clean and tidy with a fully equipped kitchen

We booked this as it said breakfast included. We would have chosen a hotel if not. The breakfast consisted of crumpets and a loaf of bread with cookies, milk and orange juice. Small butter sachets left but no jams etc. We had to go to the supermarket to buy breakfast. Cereal etc. Not good value for money considering breakfast was not really a full breakfast at all. Also the lights in the bathroom went out leaving just 1 and a half spotlights working. This made the bathroom very dark and not able to use the shower in the evening. I contacted the owner through text message and he said he would get new light bulbs. This never happened and I never heard from him again. The shower also leaked terribly onto the floor. Design flaw. My son age 6 slept on the sofa bed. This didn't come with a bottom sheet and wasn't made up on arrival even though we had booked for 3 people.
