The Thick Forest

Location is amazing, so many trees around the chalet, and very quiet. The manager of the hotel was super amazing, very helpful and very kind.

Furniture and facilities were outdated.

I have mixed feelings writing this review: this place is in the jungle and you have to be aware of that before you book your stay here: we were, but the mosqitiera had holes, the bathroom was dirty and rusty. The treehouse looked like it wasn’t cleaned in a long time. On the other hand the host is very nice and welcoming, the breakfast was good. Just make sure you know your limits and standards, more like an option for backpakers.

Our stay at The Thick Forest in Sigiriya was truly special. The treehouse, located in the jungle, is peaceful - you can hear nothing but jungle sounds - and has a great view of Sigiriya and Pidurangala Rock, both just a 20-minute walk away. Nandana, the manager, welcomed us warmly, even though we arrived late in the evening. It was off-season, and we were the only guests, but he still offered us dinner and drinks. As a former chef, he prepared delicious Sri Lankan breakfasts and some of the most tasty rice and curry we had during our trip. Nandana also took the time to show us around, driving us to the Dambulla Temple and to Polonnaruwa and stopping along the way to point out interesting places and animals. One of his recommendations was an Ayurveda massage spot, where we had the best relaxing massage after a long day of sightseeing. What impressed us most was that Nandana wated with us in Dambulla at the end of our trip, and talked to the drivers ensuring we found seats on a bus to Colombo. This incredible hospitality and warmth of Nandana and other hosts was a moving experience we had again and again throughout our trip in Sri Lanka.

The location in the jungle was good.

The room and facilities in the room were below par. No almirah. Lot of dragon flies and other insects in the room and bathrooms. No options in the breakfast. Even the quality of Breakfast was not good.

We had the treehouse and it had breathtaking views of Lion Rock & the other rock (forgot the name). It was such a novelty! Nandana, the manager was such a legend. He sorted any issue we had and was extremely hospitable :) we miss him already! Meals were very LARGE - Sri Lankans certainly make big portion sizes. Oh, and the fact we could use bikes to pedal into town - fantastic idea :)

Hot water system didn’t work for our shower but cold showers were still good :)

The thick forest is located in a wonderful place in the middle of the forest. Very peaceful and quiet place with amazing staff.

We had the basic treehouse which we were not the only ones living in. But I guess this is part of the game
