Had a good stay. Accommodated us as we requested a first floor room because of a wheelchair.

"Good stop"

10.0

I was impressed with this starting with the friendly staff. Rooms were clean. We were close to a lot of restaurants within walking distance. The Mississippi River museum is probably a bit too far to walk but a quick drive away. We stayed two nights. The first days breakfast was disappointing as they must not have kept up with the rush but the second day everything was stocked and variety out. Happy with amenities. Kids enjoyed the pool which was warm. Would recommend. Parking lot seems small if there are groups in town but we always had a spot.

"Noisy"

6.0

We asked for a quiet room and were given a room on the train track side, which actually had (inadequate) foam earplugs on the night table. Tracks are about a block away, but the freight trains blasted the horn all the way through town, incredibly loud in the room, even with my more efficient earplugs, not like normal traffic noise at all. After the first one came through, we tried to get our room changed, but the woman at the desk told us nothing was available, but that the trains didn't come through that often. Well, they came by about every hour and a half all night, 5-6 times, last one about 6:30 AM. I was tempted to give the hotel 1 star, as sleep is an important part of a stay, but the room was nice otherwise. However I can't recommend this hotel to anyone who isn't deaf.

When I Got there the staff told me that they didn't have the room I reserved because they gave it away to a Marriott member. So my daughter had to sleep on sofa. Never even gave me a discount or anything. I will never stay there again or probably any Marriott. Paid a good amount for the room that I didn't get.

Great company travel. Made my work stay comfortable and have amazing customer service. Breakfast is good and have a variety of options. Full kitchens in rooms and large suites. It was nice to get groceries during my stay and not eat out the entire stay.

"One of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve ever had — and I travel often."

2.0

I booked multiple rooms at the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Dubuque Downtown for my family, traveling from Los Angeles to Dubuque for my niece’s graduation. This was supposed to be a celebratory weekend — instead, it turned into a logistical and emotional mess, all due to how this hotel handled our fully prepaid reservation. When we arrived, we were told the hotel was overbooked, and without so much as a phone call or warning, half of our party was bumped and relocated to a Holiday Inn — not even a Marriott property. That’s bad enough, but the Holiday Inn had mold in the bathroom, filthy conditions, and somehow charged our family 30% more per night than we were paying at the Marriott. Even worse, our group was split up, and what was supposed to be a special, shared moment turned into stress and frustration. When I asked the staff, I was told by one of the managers that this is “normal policy” — that overbooking and not offering compensation is just how they operate. I’ve been a Marriott Bonvoy AND Hyatt member for years, and I’ve never heard of such a policy being acceptable. And here’s the part that really stuck with me: while we stood there being told there were no rooms for us, we watched multiple non-African-American guests check in without issue. I truly hope that wasn’t racially motivated — but it was impossible to ignore how different our treatment felt compared to others. That’s not just unprofessional — that’s unacceptable. Marriott should do better. Much better.
