Hotel des Colonies Brussels by Mercure

No air conditioner and no shower. They make a lot of noise in the middle of the night, I was told it's the laundry service. Staff was great, just think they could spend a few dollars to install showers and at least fans.

Hotel is dated, but does the job. Staff very helpful and a good price for that area of Brussels.

No A/c ; only plug point for charging laptop/phone in bathroom !

We have an amazing experience. Everyone at the hotel were super nice.

This place was... fine. Location wise it was perfect for me given that I was at a conference at the Crown Plaza. It was also walkable from North Station and spitting distance from a subway stop, although the immediate neighborhood was a bit sterile. It was also walkable to the Grand Plaza and other tourist areas to the south, although that was more like 20 minutes away. Otherwise it was clean and safe and the service was... fine. But there was one clerk at the front desk who, upon me making inquiry, immediately turned his back to summon someone else. And the someone else, although very nice, usually gave me appallingly bad directions (this happened twice). Also, architecturally, the place was a bit strange: part contemporary European, part medieval, with a bit of Florida thrown into the interior design... It was a little jarring, as was the shelf ledge overhanging the head of the bed... But otherwise it was a perfectly reasonable place to stay.

The housekeeper threw away my dirty laundry bag. I was charged for an extra night that I did not stay.

Took 3 days here for business. Older hotel, and a bit run down. Minimal amenities (no clock in the room, for example). Old fixtures and old style bathroom. Neighborhood is convenient for Brussels and for the train, but lots of homeless people and some sketchy characters. Bed was ok but not great. Wifi was good off-hours but slowed down a lot in the evenings. If it is a much cheaper option then it might be worth while, but there are a lot of better spots in Brussels.

The reception people always very nice. The breakfast less impressing, crowded and dishes on the tables after the guest leave so as not enough space have to eat breakfast at dirty tables with old dishes. asked for a teacup but they do not want to give them. Well skip the breakfast and then no problems.

The hotel is old, but in a quirky way. It's quiet, close to some EU facilities (and the comic book museum :-), and reasonably comfortable and clean. If you look for luxury and many amenities, this is not for you. If you look for a simple hotel, this is adequate. The free Wi-Fi was fast and reliable.
