Hotel des Colonies Brussels by Mercure

Old hotel that is being renovated. Lot of potential. The room was comfortable but we didn't have a shower, just a bathtub. The sink was blocked, the water would not go through. But despite that, the bed was comfortable, the breakfast delicious and fulfilling and wi-fi was working fine.

The room was comfortable. The hotel is centrally situated and easily accessible. The breakfast was great. The entrance and reception is not as welcoming.

The hotel waa decent , but what's on the pictures on hotels.com look different to how the hotel looks inside when you see it in person.. a lot of wear and tear some of the plug in sockets felt like they were coming apart . The wall paper in our room just made it look so outdated . And notice the curtain had a hole , also my friend and I had a bottle of wine we ask if they could open for us, but they told us they gave the corkscrew to another guest and they never returned in, but there is a bar down stairs , how do they open their wine bottles? And we even took the wine bottle downstairs but they could not help. The shower is very tiny .. I have stayed in a 2 start hotel with bigger shower space. One positive thing i can say is the area where the hotel is situated is good .. it is very central .. close to the metro .. if you are not too fussy like I am then this place is for you

Location was the best. Amenities not great. Web site gives misleading information. The gym has extra cost 10 euro) and almost al, the equipment is not working! Walls are too thin so you hear a lot of noise from people next door or from outside. It is supposed to be non-smoking but some people smoke in theeir room and complaining about it does not help- staff think you are exaggerating

Whereas the lobby is not too bad everything goes down from there. The journey starts with the lift, which is very old and slow and continues with the rooms thats seems to have been untouched for the last 40 years with peeling paint, non working heating, uncomfortable beds, etc. This is NOT a hotel for professionals!

I didn't even get to state my name upon checkin before being interrupted and asked for my ID. I was then promptly ignored until prompted to fill out forms. Fortunately the front desk attendend changed without comment in the middle of the process to someone very pleasant. The property seems to have been 'modernised' the last time 20+ years ago. Instructions for the antique elevator are provided in French and Dutch. Seems nonsensical for a temperamental elevator that gets stuck from simply touching the doors too early in between floors. No hairdryer in the rooms, no bedside outlets and the breakfast is OK quality at best. Canned fruit salad...I have had better in a Motel one. Overall the property has a nice old timey charm, which unfortunately ends in the lobby, and is about 30€ per Night too expensive in its current state.

Staff at reception are excellent and helpful Rooms are grotty and need refurbishing. The inly socket to charge up my phone/laptop was at c 5 feet up a wall and required disconnecting the tv. The room felt dirty.

The hotel is in need of refurbishment but has great character. It is clean and the staff very friendly. The room was comfortable but the shower in the bath did not have a bracket so had to be hand held. It then tended to flood the floor! It is slightly out of town in a quiet location close to the train station, buses, trams and sight-seeing bus. About 10-15 minutes walk to Grande Place. Although in need of redecoration, the hotel is good value for money and in a good location for sight-seeing.

The hotel os very basic, but it is ok for location and just to stay one or two nights

Hotel is nice but old. Probably better off staying in the neighboring property, Hotel Siru. No restaurant but they have room service.
