"Worst Marriott Experience ever!"

This was one of the most disturbing hotel safety experiences I’ve had, and the way it was handled afterward made it even worse. During my stay, I injured my foot after stepping on an exposed screw in the room. I immediately reported the injury and the hazard to hotel staff. Any reasonable guest would expect that once an injury occurs, the room would be immediately inspected and secured to prevent further harm. That did not happen. After the incident had already been reported, I later discovered another exposed screw/nail in the same room. I personally had to bring this second sharp object down to the front desk so it could be documented. The fact that a second hazard remained in the room after a guest had already been injured and reported the issue is extremely alarming. Even more concerning was the hotel’s response: I was not relocated to another room after the injury. The room clearly was not thoroughly inspected after the first hazard was reported. A second dangerous object remained in the room, creating an ongoing risk of injury. Had the room been properly inspected after the initial report, the second exposed screw should have been identified and removed by staff — not discovered by the guest who had already been injured. Unfortunately, the situation became even more troubling when I attempted to address the issue. After raising concerns and asking about compensation for being injured due to an obvious safety hazard, I received a phone call from a representative from the hotel’s “Owner Group.” Instead of addressing the safety concern or the injury, the representative spent the call berating me for asking about compensation. Being injured because of a hazard in a hotel room is already unacceptable. Being spoken to in a hostile or dismissive manner afterward for raising the issue is even more troubling and reflects extremely poorly on how this property handles guest safety concerns. Leaving a room in that condition after a reported injury represents a serious lapse in basic guest safety procedures and created a continued risk of injury. As a long-standing Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite member, I have stayed at many properties and expect a high standard of professionalism, safety, and accountability. In this case, those expectations were not met. Because of the seriousness of this situation — including the initial injury, the discovery of a second hazard after the issue was reported, and the response from ownership — I am ensuring that this experience is fully documented and shared publicly so that appropriate attention is given to guest safety practices at this property. My hope is that both the hotel’s ownership and Marriott International leadership review how this situation was handled and take steps to ensure that room safety hazards are properly addressed immediately when a guest reports an injury. No guest should be injured by a preventable hazard in their room, and no guest should be berated for raising legitimate concerns about their safety.

"Lovely staff at Columbia Marriott"

I had a wonderful stay and while the entire staff was lovely and friendly, my girl Jennett Dash in the M club made the trip! What a gentle and kind person- she brought the biggest smile to my face every day I was there :) truly made me feel at home.

"Xavier was awesome"

I was in Columbia, South Carolina for the state service for Reverend Jesse jackson and Xavier in guest services at the front desk help me tremendously. I am forever grateful for him, his tenacity, his skills and his professional professionalism was absolutely superb and I recommend anyone to stay there just on the basis of Xavier.
