Ikal Hotel Tulum

Beautiful and clean hotel with a perfect vibe. Staff very attentive but not grotesquely subservient. We came here for the first few days of our honeymoon and it was heaven. Ignore the stuff about seaweed in the area (we came in May) it’s totally not a bother and really doesn’t detract from the immense beauty of Ikal. Strong recommendation on a treehouse - totally magical. Worth every penny and incredibly good value.

De kamer had een leuke uitstraling en het was vrij schoon voor iets midden in de jungle. We hadden weinig last van ongedierte.

De advertentie en foto’s zijn misleidend. Het is gewoon een basic glamping hotel in de jungle. Overal zand en stenen. Het wordt verkocht als een luxe beach hotel maar de faciliteiten zijn erg basic, locatie is erg afgelegen, de kamer/boomhut was niet zoals omschreven (bijv geen kluisje en zithoek/eettafel), het ronde bed niet comfortabel en de wc was buiten terwijl het op de foto’s leek alsof de badkamer wel gewoon naast de slaapkamer zat. Voor een zwangere vrouw niet aan te raden, tenzij je dit gewend bent. Wij waren in de veronderstelling dat er meer comfort en luxe zou zijn. Het restaurant eten was oké maar weinig diversiteit omdat vaak ook bepaalde gerechten niet beschikbaar waren. Ook al was het laag seizoen, van een dergelijke plek in Tulum had ik meer verwacht. Even langsgaan bij een ander hotel zat er niet in want het is gewoon te ver lopen of je moet een dure taxi nemen voor een paar minuten. Ook was niet duidelijk dat je per dag moet betalen om in/uit het park te gaan. Het feit dat ze toeristen die al betalen voor een hotel ook nog entree moeten betalen is absurd (en ook nog een extra fee voor als je met een taxi naar binnen gaat, want het is anders 30+ minuten lopen vanaf de gate). Daarnaast hadden ze de motor van het mini zwembadje waarmee het water beweegt pas na 4 dagen aangezet en het water schoongemaakt. Daarvoor konden we er niet in zwemmen. Verder waren ze tegenover ons bezig met het bouwen van een nieuwe boomhut dus hadden we ook nog geluidsoverlast de laatste paar dagen. Al met al, als je een klein budget hebt en veel op excursies enzo gaat prima plek, anders zou ik wat anders zoek zoeken.

L’hôtel est idéalement situé juste à côté du Parc Jaguar, quasiment dedans et proche des ruines de Tulum ainsi que de plusieurs cenotes. Nous avons eu la chance d’être surclassés pour l’anniversaire de mon copain. Nous avons eu une magnifique chambre style cabane dans les arbres avec piscine privée, salle de bain ouverte sur l’extérieur, hamac et transats. Ambiance vraiment dépaysante ! Beaucoup de petites attentions très appréciables : bouteilles d’eau, chocolats offerts, peignoirs, chaussons, serviettes de piscine, produits de toilette, anti-moustique et aloe vera ! La piscine commune était également très agréable. La mer se trouvait à même pas 30 mètres de notre chambre. Le restaurant sert de très bons plats. Des cours de yoga sont également proposés. Mention spéciale à la femme qui nous a accueillis, adorable et très patiente. Elle expliquait tout parfaitement malgré notre anglais approximatif 🫶 Le ménage était impeccable tous les jours, la climatisation et le ventilateur de plafond étaient parfaits avec la chaleur extérieure. Le wifi fonctionnait aussi très bien, ce qui est plutôt rare pendant notre voyage au Mexique !

Petit point à savoir : il faut payer la taxe/droit d’accès du Parc Jaguar pour pouvoir accéder à l’hôtel avant 17h (sauf le dimanche), cela peut surprendre si on n’est pas au courant. Il y avait des sargasses pendant notre séjour, mais l’hôtel n’y est évidemment pour rien. Petit bémol aussi concernant les boissons au restaurant : plusieurs étaient indisponibles par manque de stock.

Actually, not much. I cannot actually list anything we liked. We initially intended to stay longer but in the end we were happy that we only booked an initial day firmly.

This is more a camping site with fixed installations than a hotel. I am not sure why this was advertised with 5 stars, but maybe I overlooked that there was a camping site rating. I had mistaken this place for a hotel. Two of the thee a/c did not work, though maintenance came quick and repaired. After repair it became clear that they were not up to the task at hand. The staff treats guests like children (maybe this is their usual clientele). Never again.
