Shinola Hotel

We had a great experience with the hospitality and thoroughness of the team at the Shinola. The food at the San Morelo and the attention to detail that every member of the staff expressed made it a great stay. We also really enjoyed cleanliness and the decor and features of our King room. The Shinola is among the best hotels that I have stayed at world wide. The location in the heart of downtown Detroit was bustling everything is in walking distance. Cant wait to come back in warmer weather.

Growing pains. This hotel has tremendous potential, but it's not ready for prime time. The service is lacking across the board and the disinterested "too cool for school" attitude is tired and not fun to deal with. If you're looking for a premium experience in terms of service, this isn't it. The physical design and details of the hotel are excellent, but the service knocks it down a few pegs.

My wife and I simply had such a great experience at the Shinola Hotel that I felt compelled to share the details—especially for travelers who can use Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts benefits. We spent a weekend in a Queen Study room and loved it. The décor and lighting throughout the hotel are warm, stylish, and distinctive. Nothing feels generic; the design has a unique character that makes both the guest rooms and the common areas feel inviting and memorable. Because Shinola Hotel participates in Fine Hotels & Resorts, we were able to use our Amex Platinum benefits for complimentary breakfast each morning, as well as a $100 property credit. On top of that, we ended up receiving more value than we expected, which felt genuinely generous. I realize many may wonder, “How can a hotel that charges around $500 a night be considered generous?” Fair enough. However, staying in the heart of downtown naturally comes at a premium. In our case, using Amex points cut the effective room cost roughly in half, and the Amex credits, along with additional credits the Hotel applied, saved us about another $500—much of which we hadn’t even anticipated. Taking all of that into account, our experience at the Shinola Hotel far exceeded our expectations and turned out to be an excellent value for a luxury downtown stay. Staff was friendly and attentive, on site dining was excellent, overall vibe is amazing. We left already talking about when we could come back.

A wonderful experience in great surroundings. The location was superb, the food magnificent, and the staff helpful without being fawning. The amenities are top notch down to the toiletries in the bathroom. It even has a discreet romance package for purchase in the room. The neighborhood is great, too: GM HQ, Apple, Shinola Store, Gucci, Parker's Alley, etc. Worth the trip

An exceptional experience in the heart of a city that is obviously on the comeback. Location is great with attractions and venues surrounding it within walking distance. All the staff that we interacted with were friendly and courteous and competent. Old world feel in a relatively new hotel. Until you look up the history it feels like a 1930’s era hotel that has been meticulously maintained or restored. Worth your time and American Express has some really great benefits that add to that.

We just returned from a 3 night weekend stay at the Shinola Hotel in Detroit, and it was truly exceptional from start to finish. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and they even surprised our kids with special treats in the room, which completely made their day. The vibe of the hotel is fantastic. The decor is stylish, modern, and full of character without feeling overdone. Every space feels intentionally designed, comfortable, and inviting. It really captures the spirit of Detroit in a fresh and elevated way. Our room service was excellent. Everything arrived warm and tasted great, which made our mornings and late night snacks even better. The restaurant in the lobby was also outstanding, with delicious food and a lively, welcoming atmosphere. The location cannot be beat. We were able to walk to local bars, restaurants, and games with ease, which made exploring the city incredibly convenient. Overall, the Shinola Hotel exceeded every expectation. Beautiful spaces, exceptional service, great energy, and true attention to detail. We will absolutely be back.

Excellent location in downtown Detroit for dining, bars and stadiums. Loved the 4th-floor pet terrace, so we didn't have to leave the hotel to take care of our dogs. The room was smallish and not as pictured. Furnishings are comfortable enough, but not of the quality expected for the price. The room minibar was nicely stocked. Service from staff is better than most Detroit downtown hotels.

definelty not worth the extra cost, front office night staff seemed annoyed having to deal with us, getting nickeled and dimed for everything was frustrating. Lack of complenatry service. It is ridiculous and shameful to offer Adult film content at a high end hotel, while not offering any tv shows/movies (netflix/hulu) complemantary like every ofther hotel. They even charged for cold water, just a small bottle was given to us complementary. I was very dissapointed
