"Just not worth the expense anymore"

6.0

I rented DVC points to stay in a Duo Studio in mid-October at The Villas. I had booked and paid for a Standard View but when I received the text with my room assignment, to my surprise, I was upgraded to a Preferred View! This might have been due to my late arrival time, around 10:30pm. This was my 11th trip to Disneyland Resort, my fourth time staying on the property. I have to say, I do not think it is worth it. The price is exorbitant for what is offered, and particularly with the early entry benefit going away in January 2026, there is really no reason to stay in the Disney-owned hotels. The Duo Studio was the perfect size for my solo stay, but the layout is frankly odd. The bathroom is enormous and roughly the same size as the sleeping area. I have no problem with the Murphy beds, typically, but this mattress felt a little on the thin side. This room did have a very large balcony, which was nice - but soundproofing to the outside was poor and I found myself wishing they had left me in a Standard View room, as noise of shouting and laughing from the pool carried right into my third floor room even with the balcony door shut and locked. The Duo Studio has a mini fridge with a small freezer compartment, a microwave, and a coffee maker. I really enjoyed the provided 70th Anniversary Blend pods provided, so much so that I bought some of the ground beans from the gift shop. There is no toaster oven. They provide dishes but no soap or sponges, and you have to do the washing in the bathroom sink, so that’s not optimal. Also just not a convenient place to eat, particularly in a room if you didn’t have a balcony. It would just be the small coffee tables to eat off of. I did find the storage to be plentiful. Towels were thin and scratchy, not what I expect from a hotel at this price point. The room, particularly in the couch area, was dim even with all lights on. Unlike other DVC properties, laundry is not free for studio guests. Perhaps this is because the laundry room for the entire Hotel is in the DVC tower, but that could be a disappointment for longer stays. The gym looked nice, the vending machine had cheaper sodas than buying bottles in the parks, and I liked the pool area - plus you have access to the main hotel’s slides and pools as well. I do appreciate that shampoo, conditioner, body wash, liquid hand soap, and lotion are all provided in the room. With the perk of Early Entry through 2025 and the savings provided by renting DVC points, the expense of staying here was just barely worth it. I don’t expect to be back anytime soon.

"Disneyland and the Resort are being neglected!"

6.0

We stayed here in October 2025 mainly for the monorail access to the park. We found that the monorail is shut down when the temp is over 83 degrees as it was too hot to ride in the cars. The occurred on several days during our stay. I asked why there was no AC in the cars and was told they were old “hand me down” cars from Florida. For as much as the resort costs to stay here, I don’t expect second hand equipment. In addition, many of the rides were out of service at times during the day due to unexpected mechanical problems. We normally are impressed with Disney, but it appears Disneyland is being neglected. I believe Walt would disappointed in the run down condition of the equipment.

"Wonderfully magical stay"

8.0

We had a wonderful stay here. Great location and a clean room. The pool was nice also. Only negatives were the bathroom fixtures were a little leaky and rusty, and we had a crying baby next door that you could hear through the connecting door. Mobile check in made it easy to check in and out.

"A Disappointing Stay That Fell Short of Disney Standards"

2.0

Our family had been looking forward to our stay at the Disneyland Hotel for months. We’ve stayed at other Disney resorts and even sailed on Disney cruises, so we know what Disney’s true hospitality feels like — warm, welcoming, and full of magic. Unfortunately, this experience was the opposite. Some of the concierge staff were surprisingly rude and dismissive, which was disheartening from the start. The hotel itself felt run-down, with trays of room service left in hallways for hours. Live music in the concierge lounge was cancelled without notice, and unlike other families, we never received the welcome tour or introduction to the lounge that should come with Club Level service. I do have to say that some of the servers were truly trying their best, they were so friendly and helpful despite having their hands full; and the coffee machine was pretty cool. The most upsetting moment came when the concierge desk staff called two security guards after we calmly expressed our disappointment — an unnecessary and intimidating response that left us embarrassed and shaken. We were never confrontational; we simply wanted to be heard. Our kids cried in the car on the way home, confused and upset about what had happened. It broke our hearts, and honestly, it’s changed how we see the Disney brand. For the price and reputation, we expected so much more compassion, professionalism, and care. I submitted a detailed guest survey over a week ago and still haven’t received any follow-up. I truly hope Disney management takes this feedback seriously and restores the warmth and magic that families have always believed in.

"Not worth it"

6.0

The price you pay implies special but it is actually just mediocre. I visited with my sister and our daughters. The room was visually clean, but the details were overlooked, for example the air exchange vent was covered in dust. The sink has a sewer smell and the furniture is broken. The water pressure was poor and the temperature would not stay consistent. The water pipes were audibly rattling when you turned in the hot water. The bath towels were rough and not the quality you would expect at this hotel. There were also no nice amenities like water in the room. The only redeeming quality is the location.

"No hot water"

6.0

We had no hot water at any time of day in our bathroom. It got lukewarm at best. We realized it late on our first night and were only staying 2 nights. We didn't want to go through the hassle of trying to move rooms or take any time away from the things we wanted to do to deal with it. Knowing the Disney staff, I'm sure they would have done something. This is no knock on them, at all since we didn't even tell them. The only point of this review is to tell people to check your shower before you unpack so that the hotel staff can move you or compensate you while it's not a giant headache to do so, because I'm pretty sure this is not all that unusual based on other reviews.

"Singled out and watched at all times."

4.0

On September 22, 2025 I checked into the Disneyland Hotel/ Discovery Tower with my family. The security guard there was by the elevator all afternoon and into the evening. If I walked right out and then turned around and came back in I got carded by security EVERY SINGLE TIME! Every time I was asked "Where is your room card?" Even coming back from dinner that night a family of 4 was in front of my family by no more than 8 feet. They DID NOT get carded was allowed to just get on the elevators, but of course, we were stopped and asked for our room key card. Next morning, no security and I told the lady at the front desk who stated she's heard others say the same thing. Certain guest are questioned if they belong there or not. In my 17 years as a DVC member I have never been singled out as to whether I belong or not. Things have changed and that is sad. I have tried emailing DVC and calling and got no where. In addition I have noticed if the conversation goes well with customer service you will get a survey. If not, no survey will come. Same thing with my stay at Disneyland Hotel. I was there at all 3 Disney hotels/resorts (Grand Californian, Disneyland Hotel and Pixar Place). Got a survey for Grand Californian. No survey for Disneyland Hotel. I have been having Disney vacations since 2004 when my son was 5 on our first Disney Cruise. I'm now platinum with the cruise line, DVC times 2 and the list goes on and on, etc. This is a first for me and I was extremely disappointed to be singled out clearly when no one else was. I tried to notify DVC and bring attention to it and it fell on deaf ears. I am posting for others to be careful at this place as well as hopes that Disney will do better on how they treat their guests.

"If You Wish Upon a Star..."

10.0

As a kid from a working-class family, growing up in Buena Park in the 1990s, staying at the Disneyland Hotel was a dream akin to going to the moon: fantastical and impossible! While the price of this Hotel will be enough to deter most budget-conscious visitors, I can honestly say that setting aside extra cash for a few months to stay in the Disneyland hotel is absolutely worth it! My mother used to say, “Staying at the Disneyland hotel is for rich people, and we will never be able to do that!”. Well, I have that kind of money now, so TAKE THAT, MOM! Vibe / Atmosphere: From the moment you arrive, the Disneyland charm is on full display. The grounds are immaculately kept, and the entrance to the hotel is shaded with palm trees. The décor throughout has a ’60s retro vibe. Then once I entered, I was impressed with the cleanliness and charm, both professional and welcoming at the same time. The decoration is, above all, cleanly designed, and balanced perfectly between “garden” and “concrete”. Service / Staff: At the time I visited, everything was so streamlined that I didn’t have to talk to a single representative to check in! From the Disney App, I was checked in before I even arrived, and my room key was built into the app (and made a delightful magic woosh sound when it opened the door). However, when we did interact with staff at the gift shop and convenience store, they were genuinely interested in our plans while staying at the hotel. And even gave us some relevant tips for visiting during the Halloween rush season. I would have more to say on this, but we simply didn’t need the assistance of the staff much at all! The app automates so many features of your stay that it is easy to be self-sufficient throughout your time here. Cleanliness / Comfort: There is a common theme among reviews I have read that this is an older hotel. And while that is true, the rooms have been refurbished in the last decade or so. And they are kept incredibly clean. Unlike many hotels in the area, these rooms do not appear to show their age nearly as much. There are minor noticeable things like the grouting and size of the tubs that indeed hint at this being built a long time ago in an economy far away, but nothing that detracted from the experience for me personally. The room we stayed in had an excellent view overlooking the front of the hotel, and the wall-to-wall window was an incredible way to let the morning sun into the room. The beds were very comfortable, and the chairs were as well. I rarely use hotel furniture other than the bed, but I was surprised to say I spent a good amount of time just lounging in the chair, looking out the window at the park. Food / Amenities (if applicable): The amenities in the room are the standard that one would expect in any hotel of this caliber (hairdryer, mini-fridge, TV, etc). There were also robes provided, which were just delightful, and of course had the Disney Logo on them. What You Did (activities / duration / standout moments): We stayed at this hotel for four nights. The short walk to the parks, the access to restaurants, the convenience of shops in the lobby, and the overall attentiveness of the staff (not to mention the convenience of the app) made our stay simply wonderful. Each day blends into the next, and we left all of our time and attention to navigating the parks. We did visit the Disneyland Park for three out of the four days, and one evening at the Oogie Boogie Halloween party in California Adventure. That is a truly STANDOUT event, and well worth the special ticket price. Oogie Boogie Bash was the highlight of our stay, to be sure! We did not use the pool during our stay, but I have used it in a previous stay, and it is lovely. While we didn’t spend much time in the room itself, the grounds of the hotel kept the “Disney magic” experience alive for us from the Park to the Room. Pros & Cons Pros: There are MANY pros to staying at this hotel; however, I must say that the unequivocal winner is the proximity to the Disney Property. If you stay at the hotel, you might also get early entry to the park on select days. The security line to get into Downtown Disney is relatively shorter (not always SHORT in the strictest sense) but short-ER than the main security entrance from the public street. The option to take the Mono-Rail from inside the park to the Downtown Disney stop, which is a quarter-mile stroll to your hotel from there, is convenience worth the extra cash? And if you have already used your ticket once that day, you can jump on the monorail and ride it straight into the park, no muss, no fuss. That is a pretty impressive convenience, in my opinion. Cons: For me personally, the value is worth every penny. That said, for many people, the main con here will be the price point (which can get as high as $1000 a night for a standard room during peak seasons). For many visitors on a budget, the price is simply cost-prohibitive. That is the main con of staying at this hotel. And to a lesser degree, having to walk all the way through the Downtown Disney property (especially in crowded hours) can be an extra distance you may not want to do after a long day of waiting in lines to get on rides. Tips for Future Travelers (optional): If you are willing to pay the extra money and you can afford it, I highly recommend doing so! That established, even if you have a large budget for your stay, you should keep in mind that food is not included anywhere on the property. The prices of meals can add up, especially if you are staying for three or more days, as we did. My recommendation is to budget for about $100 a day per person if you plan to eat three meals a day (or do your wallet a favor and buy some groceries you can fit in the mini-fridge). I also, of course, recommend downloading the app well in advance of your trip, because you will HAVE to use it for virtually everything. Most memorable feeling or moment: The most enrapturing and honest-to-gods deal maker for me is the Headboards! The headboards may seem like a minor stylistic addition to some, but the “goodnight kiss” feature that lights up and plays wish upon a star is just the Disney Magic special touch that makes staying at this hotel worth it. Playing that thing each night for my partner before bed was the absolute highlight of my trip!

"Excellent experience! Except the COCKROACH!"

2.0

I’ve been looking through reviews after my trip, and am shocked to see that nobody else has struggled with cockroaches! When we were packing to go home, we discovered a cockroach in my sister’s luggage, and I know for a fact that that can’t be the only one that was in the room. Otherwise, I had a good experience, (staff, pool, ambiance, etc.) but this cockroach was an automatic FAIL. Nightmare to deal with after coming home. Come in September though! Very empty!
