Hotel Mercure Oostende

Stayed 2 nights as part of an 8 night break touring round. Used 5 hotels and this was the worst! Supposed to be a twin but was so cramped the luggage stand couldn't be put up without ramming a chair under the desk. Couldn't even fit a bin in the room! ( was one in bathroom). Toilet cistern was cracked and bottom of shower curtains were discoloured. No air conditioning and room was very unpleasant with outside temperature around 24 C. It is in a good location but parking is a problem ( or costs 22 euros for secure underground parking per 24 hours). Staff were pleasant and breakfast ok. Have used Ramadas in the past and was surprised at the poor standard of accommodation in Ostend.

The trip was for my 91 old father, taking him and me to back to where we used to live – memory lane. First impressions were good, clean entrance, but then taking the lift that’s when it hit. Lift took ages to come and very small, so I had to take extra care in making sure the luggage was not an obstacle for my father. Getting inside the bedroom was a task, but we managed. He had his own room, it was not clean, bathroom needed a complete over haul, smelt of smoke and the carpet has stains. Similar was the state of my room. There was a good variety for b/fast, but we did decide to eat out for our evening meals. On checking out, the lift was so slow we decided to take the stairs, luckily we were on the second floor and a true trooper, my father made it. Not a hotel I would want to go back to.

The room lighting was poor so reading not easy. The staff were good and the breakfast was good. Its position near the tram/beach was good

The staff is very friendly and helpful and fluent in many languages. The location is great- less than a 5 minute walk from the boardwalk, casino, shops and beach. Breakfast buffet is also pretty good. HOWEVER, the hotel itself is not very nice at all. The rooms are TINY and frankly not very clean. The shower smelled and the sink was clogged. The bed only had a cover blanket, no top sheet (yuck) Also there are no refrigerators or A/C in the room (I think you can request this ahead of time, but I'm not sure.) The view is awful and there are no dressers and the closet door was broken. The elevator felt like it would break at any minute. If you don't plan on spending a lot of time in the hotel then it's not THAT terrible, but honestly you can do better for this amount of money.

Stayed here for 8 nights. Good location, pleasant service, wifi worked well, excellent copious free breakfast, coffeemaker in room, but room was extremely small and elevator very slow.

The hotel location was ideal,less than a minute's walk from the beach and yet right in the middle of the town. Our room was very clean and we had everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money

Staff were freindly and helpful, we were able to check in early. Hotel is a short walk from the sea front and local to the harbour and high street shops. Car parking is close in the Casino underground car park but did cost 22 euros overnight. Break was well presented and good value.

The location of the hotel was very central, with everything in walking distance.The best part was the friendly helpful staff. I would definitely stay there again.
